Pop-ups are what happens when net neutrality goes away. Get used to it now!
I signed the petition/sent the email protesting the removal of net neutrality that was in the pop up and it hasn't appeared since. It was in my best interest since I'm all for net neutrality and wanted to help show opposition to that legislation. Even if you don't care about most that's talked about with net neutrality, it will be a violation of the first amendment freedom of speech since they can then use it to effectively censor people or websites and restrict the spread of information they don't like. Anything that uses an internet connection can be slowed down to practically a halt if this is passed, which could potentially bring down organizations with how much they could mess with communications and normal functions.
Yeah Gimp, what @Phantomoftruth said. Many sites and service providers are doing this in protest of then new Net Neutrality rules that Trump and the FCC want to impose.
It's an important issue, but if you are not one of the (presumably) minority from America then you can just adblock it. It's a global issue though, so worth being aware of and making your concerns heard if it has yet to be settled in your country.
