The only system that would benefit from more random read write like that would be servers ingesting a shit ton of data. There is no reason to be paying $100 more for less storage and an uglier LARGER form factor.

My understanding from what CR said in the intro remarks was that Intel also paid for CitizenCon in Frankfurt, so that save us all a ton of money, and allowed more to be spent on the game.

And I get that, but it still rubs me the wrong way that they are helping push a product to us that most of us would not benefit from in the slightest bit. (assuming you have at least a regular SSD)

On the other hand, if you get a bunch of corporate tie-ins, anyone who attacks you as being a scam is calling all your partners stupid as well. It grows the brand.

*shrug* I'm no CIG business person, and I wouldnt pretend to know if they got a good deal or not, but I still feel it was at the expense of the user base here...

LOL, I was thinking on my dog walk this morning, "The 1990's solution would be to set up a RAM disk"...check out the numbers from this article:

In particular, this would beat both the Intel & Samsung drives (RAM disk numbers on the right):

Darn it, my computer can only take 64GB of RAM; still, I should be able to load Star Citizen on a 48GB RAM Disk (it's "only" a 30.6GB folder on my drive), and still have 16GB left over for RAM for the computer...and that would only cost me about $350! I know, not the most efficient thing, but, I run some software that could use 64GB of memory (alas, I only have 32GB of RAM right now).

Doesn't ram disk clean out on restart though, since its all cache?

Yes, if you restart your computer you lose any changes that you didn't copy to your physical hard drive/SSD, and after re-booting you would have to recreate the RAM disk and recopy the folder/program to the RAM Disk again. See what we suffered through during the 1990's? lol!

How often do you reboot? I reboot once every M$ update that forces me to reboot...say, about once every 8 weeks or so? I am starting to think this would totally be worth it for me...although I have to say, my current SSD seems speedy enough, and I don't think I've ever had a bottleneck due to SSD speed issues...if there has been a bottleneck, it has been the net code, but, let's not drag up that issue again. All will be right with the 3.0 update (fingers crossed).

LOL, so I'm not the only one! It is quite an achievement for disks to now be that fast, that they are (almost) in the same league as RAM. I think the good news is, Intel and Samsung are pushing the PC limits...sadly, I think Windows doesn't care about PC's as much, now that they are pushing their XBone.

That Samsung 960 PRO M.2 is an amazing piece of technology!

But this deal with Intel helped fund the event, so they can't promote what ever thay want IMO!

The loot bags everybody got, the giveaways and the venue are most likely all shared because this was a Intel SSD promotion.

The less of their own money they use for these events, the better it is for us.
