Cutlass Blue or Freelancer MIS?

I thought that the long range sensors in the DUR were housed in the bulges in its unique nose ahead of the cockpit. Otherwise, I don't see a point to them being there.
No it’s not the long range sensors on the front in those bulges and I am pretty sure the long range scanner can not be used from the pilot seat outside of the Hornet variant you see this in the Aquila and the Terrpin that have a manned station in the ship to use the long range scanner.

Well it makes sense since the Aquila, Cutlass Red and the F7C-R Hornet all lost a turret for the long range scanner. Seeing that they removed the manned turret from the matrix for the DUR only makes sense and it’s slated for a rework. It wouldn’t make sense for every other expedition or ship with a long range scanner to lose a turret but the DUR get to keep its turret.

If that is what it is, then, that is what it is, and the MIS is not for me. The question becomes do I really want a ship in that size class.

So your saying the Aquila has the same cargo capacity as the Taurus? You obviously haven’t seen them in the hanger the Taurus should have twice as much as the Aquila if not more. The freelancer and the Aquila lose cargo space for expanded fuel tanks. The Aquila and the Andromeda. Also lose space for the Merlin you dock on the back. The scanners take a turret slot. The Red loses cargo for the Med bay.

Even the Hornet loses its turret slot for the scanner I don’t know what more proof you need.

No the Aquilla has the same cargo capacity as the Andromeda. The Taurus additional cargo capacity comes at the expense of the lower turret and the Merlin. The Andromeda and the Aquilla have the same specs, except the Andromeda has a top turret and the Aquilla has the sensor array.

So the DUR should lose either the turret or cargo capacity, not both.

That and the reduction in the cargo capacity would cover the sensors. Also why I thought the MIS had better sensors than the base.

The lose of cargo on the DUR is for the better jump drive and expanded tanks the lose of the turret is for the long range scanners. Why would putting bulges on the front of the ship lose cargo space?you guys aren’t making sense it’s obvious by design that long range scanners(not improved sensors) take a turret slot. You can argue with the game design if you want but when every other ship in the game with the same long range scanner uses a turret slot for them I highly doubt the Freelancer will be the only ship in the game that doesn’t do this. Where do you think the expanded fuel tanks fit or the improved jump drive? I would say it would be unbalanced if it wasn’t the same scrifices made for the same module on every ship. It also puts some limitations on the halls of how capable they will be otherwise you could just make an aurora the best ship in the game for solo and never have to do anything but buy modules for it.

In fact I am now rethinking having any ship in that size category at all since it doesn't offer a significant upgrade, in capability, from an Avenger. Cutting my personal fleet size from 4 to 3 ships. Dumping both the Freelancer and Cutlass for a Tali (probably, depending on answers to my Tali questions that have to wait for 3.0 to be released and the Tali modules).

Those ships are a significant upgrade in firepower and cargo space over the Avenger series but loses speed and maneuverability and Avengers are fighters that can cargo haul/stasis pod until they add more but its main purpose it will do best in will always be what it was originally meant to do you pry won't have as many choices for modules for changing what an Avenger specializes in compared to the medium size ships like the Cutlass and the Freelancer. I think the important thing to realize is that hulls are designed to do specific task and will always excel in task in the field a Freelancer will always be better at hauling with the ability to defend yourself more than doing other things without making sacrifices like one less turret for a scanner and cargo for fuel and better jump drive and a Hornet will always excel best at being a dogfighter since that is what their base hulls were meant to specialize in. The MIS sacrifices the turret for more missiles and cargo space for reloading them and will probably like most of the other gunships be best used to attack larger ships you pry won't have a hard time facing kind of making the back turret useless and the fights will pry take long enough to use most of if not all of the missiles its specialized and not something meant to dogfight with. You can't make one ship that can truly do everything well that isn't a capital ships which is pretty much a flying home base . Tali may suit your needs better though its all in what you want to do and how many people you plan on running with or how many npcs you can afford to hire when you get into the larger ships. I guess what I am trying to say that most of the ships you have to look at what you want to do and realize what you have to give up to get there. Exploration ships aren't meant to be fighters in conflicts or dedicated haulers they are meant to explore so you give up cargo and firepower to do better in that field. The exploration ships I believe are also used to track people down for bounty hunters but not go after them. Gunships are more specialized towards taking out ships larger than themselves though they can pry do well against smaller ships they won't do as well as say a Hornet or a Sabre. I believe the turrets on the freelancer are meant to be able to swivel around and cover the front and sides well if you have someone else operating them to cover their full range while the pilot would concentrate on locking missiles on what is in front of them. It was said in one of the weekly videos that you could give someone else control maybe even one unmanned turret to two different stations to take advantage of their full range to shoot straight out like you saw on the commercial which the pilot just cant do. The Freelancer is truly meant to operate with more than one person.

I am personally a fan of the Cutlass rework and its dropship seating which was originally why I was interested in it since it would be replaced with that if I lost the ship once insurance is a thing in 3.0. So it fit my needs when I didn't have the funds to get a Hoplite for what I would like to specialize on in game when I am not crewing on someone else's ship. The Cutlass turret also faces forward and isn't meant to be used at the back of the ship only and can be slaved to the pilot or copilots head I don't think the rear facing turret on the freelancer is going to be able to do that since it is setup to fight stuff at the back of the ship and would just be shooting the Freelancer if it tried to attack anything in front of the ship. So if you were going to be flying any of the Freelancer series solo the lose of the back turret on the DUR or the MIS isn't really a big deal since stopping and parking the ship and running back to it pry isn't a good idea in a fight. You actually end up with more firepower at you finger tips in the MIS that's useable for a solo pilot pry a lot nastier than a soloed Cutlass Black with the turret slaved to the pilots head to shoot forward that the variants of the freelancer that have a rear turret can't do. As far as how the Blue stacks up to the MIS we will just have to wait and see.

Admittedly I am super fond of the MIS, it was the first big purchase I made, I really like the idea of it. However since then I have also purchased a cutlass and really enjoyed it in it's first edition state and am looking forward to the rework. If I really had to, I would say cutlass. However If you can scrape it out, do both. Why pick, or flip a coin, and earn the other in game, set a goal for it.

depends on how self sufficient you want to be you will have to rely on explorers to help you locate people if you don't have a dedicated scan ship to find them yourself. You may be able to do that with good sensors and not need a long range scanner I am not sure. I just know it was listed in the explorer guide that would be info we could provide/sell if we did that role.

The Blue is setup for bounty hunting and adds two more guns and more missiles than the sabre. Though in a fight I would say the Sabre would have an advantage it can't carry any bounties unless you are just going to kill them at that point.

depends on how self sufficient you want to be you will have to rely on explorers to help you locate people if you don't have a dedicated scan ship to find them yourself. You may be able to do that with good sensors and not need a long range scanner I am not sure. I just know it was listed in the explorer guide that would be info we could provide/sell if we did that role.
Tali or Connie should handle the task nicely.

Missiles are expensive. And if you need more than 4 size 3 or 8 size 2 you are fragged anyway. The 4 size 3 guns that you can put on target and keep there, without a turret is the same as the Freelancer and likely to be more effective than either the Lancer or the Cutlass, since you can outmaneuver almost anything in a Sabre. Against a Lancer or Cutlass you can stay behind and below them.

as long as they aren't crewed and pop open the back or side door and start shooting you with railguns the boarding party has you should be fine.

Once the Sabre is detected.
Opening those doors and peaking out vs. 4 gt-220 is likely to turn those looking out into a fine red mist. :)

As long as they don’t have any of those people as new people that haven’t done anything yet you won’t have to worry about being the next bounty and not being able to collect on them
