Wow! It looks like all 8 turrets can be slaved forward. They all have that arc and the min crew is 3!

I may have a new love. . .not sure I care about the Polaris' torpedoes so much as the speed to keep up with fighters. I wonder what sort of range it has? What a kick to fly into Vanduul space! "Okay men, KILL EVERYTHING!"

. . .and then take their treasure.
The possibilities for privateering just became so much more. This... This is the one. Haha.
I know there's no such thing as "enough dakka" but jesus alive that's within spitting distance.

If CIG doesn't blow me out of the water with a giant Caterpillar update and a slew of awesome modules, bye bye Caterpillar, too bad you had parking sensors instead of viable firepower for a pirate freighter.
I'm in the same boat. My lovely Cat just became dust...
(I feel like I've already quoted these two messages today, but....meh)
$550 warbond, $650 credits.
Thank you.

Yeah, i'm gonna hold on until the Drake day to see if anything changes....but right now the Caterpillar is sadly just an undergunned, overpriced loot pinata. Making a modular battle freighter that's got less firepower than a non-combat fuel tanker, and making it without even an official list of planned modules is lame-o. Can't fight enough to be a pirate ship, can't haul enough to be a hauler, and doesn't have the utility to do anything else.

Which sucks, I've had my Cat since 2013 :'(

If you think about it, the Hammerhead and the Caterpillar both have the same shields and powerplants. The Hammerhead is rocking 24 S4 cannons while the Caterpillar is rocking 4. So, where is all of that extra power going that would normally feed the extra 20 S4 cannons?

I'm guessing that the Caterpillar is just oozing with extra power for shields and overpowering the cannons.

Since the Caterpillar has 3x Medium computers, you can literally automate every turret on that ship without caring. Your extra computation space will benefit you. Someone can solo a Caterpillar and just call targets for the turrets. The Hammerhead requires at least 7 people to run. I'd like to see 7 Caterpillars with full auto turrets fight a crewed Hammerhead. Hammerhead has 2x Medium computers, which will be the same as the Caterpillar has left over after automating all of the turrets.

I think that the Caterpillar still has a place in efficiency, but other specialized ships can do things better overall. I'm thinking that CIG want pirates to have to swarm in order to do well. At least with a solo Caterpillar, we can still operate at fair efficiency.

Just my thoughts.

`just looking at the hammerhead in the holoviewer. There are 4 turrets one on each 'wing', one dorsal turret and one ventral turret. the ventral turret cannot face forward. Most interesting was the cavity in the center of the ship just in front of the dorsal turret, why waste that much space? does it serve a function?

Seems like the ship for most missions.
Since fighters and smaller multi-crew ships would be the majority in game.

The firepower and angles she can cover are excellent.
Given the expenses with the Hammerhead to operate, I wouldn't say it is a ship for most missions, but it is definitely good to have on large escort convoys as it should be able to replace several small attack fighter escorts by acting like an area of denial towards incoming raiders.

Depending on how large that space may be, perhaps we can fill it with an Aurora with that is wearing the TEST skin. :)

My Eclipse is a Warbond version, but still doesn't list a serial number.

With the Polaris you could tell which serial number you were by looking at the url. I'm sure somebody with a better memory will swing by and explain this better if its applicable to the Eclipse sale.

In the Shipshape today one of the lead designers mentioned the words "negative space" in the center of the ship as being a style point... My assumption is they were trying to differentate from the Polaris as much as possible and give the Hammerhead more uniqueness to meet this through that open gap. While I admire the idea, I would have prefered to see a type of room there that has glass ceiling and floor, perhaps a mini-CIC, a tiny lounge for crew to hang out in between fights, or instead of armored glass make the area a airlock with shields which friendlies can pass through to drop in or eva to targets.

Thanks for your advice.

Truth be told, I honestly see no benefit to the gap being there. While it looks cool, that seems to be its only purpose. Which comes at the cost of all that could have been done with the space lost within the ship. If anybody can point out the benefit for it other than cosmetic looks, I'm happy to know.

I still love my Cat. And mods willing, I'll reacquire her. But for now she's just seems neutered. I'm willing to sacrifice her, for the time being, in the name of the shiney and new.

Don't make me regret anything with your sense and sensibility and stuff and theorycrafting, haha. Just shush. ;)

Imagine all of the kegs of space beer that you can jiggy rig to fit inside that cosmetic gap.
and vacuum will keep the beer (and scotch) nice and cold.
You might not have noticed this, but if you rearrange the letters in "cosmetic gap" you can spell "alcohol storage".
