Vanguard Ships

After Serious consideration, I have decided I want the Vanguard instead of the Sabre I just picked up.
I am going to get the Sentinel and find a Warden BUK.

Doesn't the Sentinel comes in Test Colors? :slight_smile:

That gives me a combination of E-War/EMP capability and an Escort fighter on one platform. I am not getting the Harbinger because my primary ship is a Retaliator. I figure the Sentinel can disable an enemy so I can capture them, run support for Org operations and the Warden can run escort or deep strike fighter support for the Org, or play escort for my other half. :slight_smile:

Note I just watched a video today of (in 2.6.3) a Warden taking multiple missiles and the effects. Apparently 6 size one, or 6 Size 2, or 4 size 3, or one size 5 torp, didn't even scratch the paint. 2 size 5 scratched the paint but it was still fully functional, unless hit from directly astern which damaged maneuvering slightly. 3 size 5 did significant damage and mission killed it, but didn't destroy it, that took 4 size 5 torps. :slight_smile:

She's a tank. And the fact she's been confirmed as going in for a rework is extremely heartening. I will have my Harbinger/Sentinel package. That Sentinel will be a beast when used properly and paired with the correct platforms.

KInd of like that Sentinel plus 2 Retaliators I was talking about as an anti-Cap Ship combo? LOL

Now that they are reworking it, the vanguard is looking good. Currently it is underwhelming. It's not poopy by any stretch, it can be deadly in the right hands, it flies reasonably and it does have some firepower. If it was reworked and tweaked to be a long distance military grade heavy fighter that was promised I think it could be pretty darn good. All it really needs is a bit more deadliness, maybe bigger guns or more missiles.

Think about what happened when they reworked the cutlass - imagine if the vanguard got a bit bigger with 25% more firepower and all the polish of a 3.0 ship...... I might have to buy one back! :D

What Vanguard Ship are you going to be flying and why?

I'll probably sit second seat in a Sentinel so i can do the EM chicanery stuff. I like that. May buy both the Sentinel and Hoplite to use them together.

I have a Sentinel at the moment, but honestly I will likely let it go. . .

What we ended up getting, as I found out, was a ship that wasn't all that special in the distance department. What is special about it, is how easily the engines are blown completely off. So when it comes to a fight, I find myself picking a different fighter every time. So ultimately my Vanguard will end up looking vastly different (aka, CCU'd to something bigger).

I think someone has misled you. It is special. Wait until we start to see range figures. There are likely no other fighters that can keep up with it. It is however, NOT a dog-fighter. If you are allowing dog-fighters to close on you so they can use their higher maneuverability, that is what is getting the engines shot off. You need to kill them early with the big S5 mount and missiles.

Still no word on the proper mount to put a pair of Ballistic Cannons fixed on the chin? They should fit!
