Dual Sticks - My God why didn't I do this before

So one of the issues I have had with respect to immersion for SC has been the switching between mouse and keyboard and my T16000.M stick - as a pilot IRL it just never felt right.

So I still have the old Logitech X30 I used for my flight sim days but I had been using my Saitek Rudder Pedals for Strafe L/R, and stick rotation for Yaw but it never quite felt right, and I was really struggling with up/down strafe especially, making for terrible landings where Autoland is unavailable.

Now I thought I had tried dual-stick before and couldn't get to where I liked it but for whatever reason it felt better this time, probably because I better understand keybindings and ability to set deadzones and response curves - I must not have known we could do that last time I tried.

Sooooo, I mounted up the old Logitech, spent about an hour defining and testing bindings and can report I will be a dual-stick junkie going forward - much smoother and more natural - still have some work to do to relearn muscle-memory.

I will also work on setting up dual-stick profile to include EVA, Foot and Ground Vehicle settings but for now I am happy with it for flight.

I have been debating going Dual Stick, but I got an X52 setup. I kind of like the throttle and stick. Also, I am kinda frugal. If it works, I cannot justify to myself buying another setup.

Welcome to the club. I spent quite a bit of time looking into control schemes. I tried a few out before I landed on dual joysticks. I was such a perfect experience that I haven't had a second thought since.

The only consideration to the contrary, is IM mode with the mouse and gimbals. If they balance the game around that, anyone that uses a joystick to aim might end up at a disadvantage. The "fly by gimbal" method makes for a superior aiming advantage as it sits now. It basically pits joystick against mouse in a way that no video game has ever pulled off (aka controller vs mouse in fps games).

Games usually compromise by giving the controller aim assist but that would lead to cheesing the controls like they are in Destiny 2 PC. People are using XIM or a controller emulator to get the aim assist, but still use the mouse. It is not a solution. Ultimately I will gladly play at a disadvantage in a dogfight simply because flying with dual joysticks is so fun. However, it is something to consider as development continues.

Edit: I also fly with dual joysticks but have a mouse/nostromo for the fps. I keybind flight to the sticks but general interaction and fps on the others. It works really well since I am already familiar with the nostromo/mouse for fps so no need for new muscle memory. Plus, I can switch between the two seamlessly. I get the feeling you will need to on a regular basis once this game gets filled out a bit more.

is it nice?
Yes, I really like it.

Since I fly planes IRL, I have pitch and roll on the right stick like my plane, twist on the right for yaw, weapon group 1 and 2 on the trigger and a button, decouple on a button. On the left stick, I have fwd/aft and l/r strafe on the stick, twist left to strafe up, twist right to strafe down, throttle on the hat switch fwd/aft, cycle friendly hat switch left, cycle hostile hat switch right - and then stuff like flight ready, power, landing gear, lights, lock/unlock, missile lock/fire, and push to talk on the left stick buttons.

Works pretty good in AC, haven't been able to get back in today (Christmas and all), so will try Live tomorrow and see how it goes.

I recommend it as an approach, especially since it is so customizable.
