Is this Valve throwing a glove to the ground to challenge the Twitch empire?

I mean I knew there was viewing Dota 2 matches in game, but this is an altogether different beast! I'm sure it'll have lots of kinks to work out, but it's a really interesting development!

It could eventually usurp twitch, considering you can stream non steam games as well, but it would have to integrate some of twitch's features(chat bots, hosting, donations, etc) before it took over.

As a streamer, I am interested to see how it works out. I won't be jumping ship from Twitch just yet. However, now when your buddy see you playing something on Steam and asks you how it is, you can just stream it for them right there on the spot.

You'd need some good internet for that, but I don't see why not.

Integrated steam social features would be nice, maybe item giveaways for games like TF2?

I actually assumed they'd do a similar method with the cards. Start with TF2, DOTA 2, and CS:GO streaming, then expand to other non-Valve Steam games, then to non-Steam games and apps. But they didn't hold anything back, streaming of anything you can make a Steam shortcut for. Hell, you could watch me work up my glucose sensor data in Microsoft Excel if that ticked your fancy.

The amusing part was within only a few hours, the most watched streams were all porn. Then the took everything down for the update and presumably made some hotfix modifications.

But no matter what new technology is debuted, it will be used for pornography immediately, and with great success, haha! :D

I'd insert that webcomic about how, just like the internet, genetic engineering will probably just end up primarily used for reproductive enhancements, but I couldn't find it. Instead I'll leave you with a song you all know and love!
