I think these 5 are possibly the best I currently listen to. The first 4 are heavily focused on military history, national security stuff, and U.S. politics. Mainly because that is the field I work in, so my usual media consumption focuses on those areas. That last is just for fun. In no particular order:
1. Deep State Radio. "Twice a week, this podcast will take you on a smart, direct, sometimes scary, sometimes profane, sometimes hilarious tour of the inner workings of American power and of the impact of our leaders and their policies on our standing in the world. Hosted by noted author and commentator David Rothkopf and featuring regulars Rosa Brooks of Georgetown Law School, Kori Schake of Stanford University and David Sanger of the New York Times, the program will be the lively, smart dinner table conversation on the big issues of the day that you wish you were having...without the calories. Sometimes special guests will join the conversation and always the emphasis will be on providing the unvarnished perspectives others shy away from. Deep State Radio is the insider perspective on American national security and foreign policy that you can't find anywhere else." This an extremely good look at what currently is going on in Washington in relation to our foreign policy and national security and has a rather loyal following on twitter.Link: https://soundcloud.com/deepstateradio
2. War on the Rock's WarCast. This is a "geopolitical briefing on world crises and events as they happen" while it is not free, it consistently supplies one of the best primers on what is currently going on in the world, particularly with a military, national security, and intelligence leaning.

3. War for Idiots. "Two idiots attempt to understand the complexities of War using their own, unique senses of dark humour and complete idiocy. We can't guarantee you will learn something, but we can guarantee you'll laugh at an idiot...at some point...we hope. From the team that brought you The Dead Prussian" This is frankly one of the best dialogues discussing war in a really, really approachable fashion currently on the internet. 4. The Dead Prussian. "The Dead Prussian Podcast aims to explore war and warfare through discussion and analysis of military theory, historical events, contemporary conflicts, and expert interviews." Exactly what their description states, this is one of the best podcasts taking what happened in history and applying it to today's world. Link: http://www.thedeadprussian.com/
5. Welcome to Nightvale. "WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events." This is just damn hilarious, extremely well written, and has a cult following. Link: http://www.welcometonightvale.com
Note: I was kinda tired when I wrote this so expect spelling mistakes and a possibly lukewarm reaction from everyone that sees this, I just needed to burn some time up.
