Well i bought a package for SC back in 2017... i know a long time ago.
What is there to do, i am a pesky peasant and own the Mustang Alpha but can't fly that at the moment so have an equally cheap Aurora. I am wanting the Cutlass black or the mining ship when i re mortgage my bed space ;)
I like mining....can't mine.
I like transport...only have a cargo of 3.
Am i to just sit in space and admire its beauty OR can i actually do something worthwhile in these rusty clam shack of ships?

I'm in about the same position as you are, ship wise.
Aurora and 300i, not much to trade with, nothing good enough to fight with... But!
What I usually do, is going to the 3 big stations with shops, look in all the shops of whats on sale, clothes, guns and such, and set a goal of getting those that I like. To buy all that stuff, I usually need more AUEC than I have, so I gotta get more by doing missions or trying some trading, and trying not to get shot lol.
Once you have a goal, you can just do whatever's available:
- you can group up with other TESTies and players, and do whatever, from manning the turret, trying other ships, to having races on planets with a loaner vehicle
- go to a place on a planet, buy stuff, and sell it at another place. This is not really profitable at the moment, especially with such small ships
- try UPS missions . Delivery missions where you have to pick up a box and deliver it to another place (or just remove it from the planet in case of spacepoop. you can just throw the box out the door then)
- you can hunt for cargo from wrecks. You can usually find these around asteroid fields with boxes floating around, with cargo inside (someone correct me here, does this still work? haven't tried it since 3.0)
- you can take other missions like: returning black boxes, finding lost ships, "servicing" Comm-Arrays, but all these include combat. I'd avoid it in an Aurora. Although you can cheese most "find ship and deliver" missions by afterburning to the wreck, turning your ship off, grabbing the necessary item while EVA, and then just boosting the hell out of there, ignoring the attacking ships. It doesn't always work, but it can be a fun time lol
- there's supposed to be a "beacon" system where players can ask other players for help. This includes help as a fighter escort, or just simply picking somone up from somewhere and getting them somewhere else, like a taxi service. These ofc all come with compensation, payed by the player requesting your services. I don't know if this works at the moment though? I know it worked in 3.1, but I haven't seen a single "beacon" request since 3.2 launched.
So, lots of things to do, with all the bugs and the server and client crashing, it could take you quiet a while to complete lol
