I have two screens a 2560 x1440p 27 inch and a 1920x1080 23 inch mounted above it ( so that I can watch you tube vids whilst waiting on the ship reclaim timer)

For my next update should I go widescreen or 4k, getting rid of the 1080 and putting the 1440p up above it?

I have a Titan X and an i7 6800k .

Its a tough one.

any concise thoughts?

Personally I prefer 4k. Many games don't handle widescreen resolutions very well and stuff looks warped or the UI is messed up.

Some friends at work prefer widescreen tho, so I don't think there is really a right answer.

Go Wide screen, I believe most 4k are limited to 60fps at least at an affordable price. I have a 34" wide screen curved at 100hz. I purchased this one a few years ago at $500.00. You are going to pay more for monitors with G-sync. The one I bought does not use g-sync and I don't noticed any issues with tearing. I run a Nvidia 1070

There are 120hz 4K now, I just read some news about a decently priced one.

I don't have one of those though. I play at 60fps. At that level I'm quite happy with my gaming experience.

At my age (only 40) if I'm playing a game where 120fps is a competitive advantage, I'm going to lose regardless of my frame rate. Thus I stay away from those games.

You are probably looking at a plus 1,500 price tag. I'm not willing to pay that much myself. But I'm a cheap SOB.

Yeah the definition of "reasonable" varies by person, for sure.

Since @Rear_Intruder said he's sporting a Titan X I figured he didn't care how much the monitor cost.

Either way, I have myself a 60hz 4K monitor and it works great for me. 🙂

EDIT: Just did a quick Google search. I'm seeing 144 Hz 4K monitors in the $350-500 range.

Care to share a link to one? I'd be interested in seeing a plus 100hz 4k widescreen monitor at that price range. Cause I was looking to buy a few more also and if it is 4k I can upgrade my 2k.

I got my rig /Titan X when I came into some money 2 years ago, so price is now an issue Xist, I'm thinking less than $800
In the same way that no games use my GPU to its full potential and may not for 2 or 3 years, will a 4K monitor or a widescreen be useful in most games in the next 2 or 3 years,
The 3rd option is stick with what I have for a couple of years and hide the money from Mrs Intruder.

Those are nice and fall under the specs. But After owning a 34" screen I don't think I could go back to a smaller one. I think 34" is the perfect size.

That one didn't get very good reviews!

The other (more expensive ones) did get good reviews, and they were under $550, which is pretty amazing for 27" IPS monitors at 4k. I know Viewsonic used to be a good brand, not sure about them recently. Very tempting!

Once you go 4k you cannot go back. It is the best decision i have made when it comes to my PC. Go 4k.

He has a Titan X. That GPU will run 4K for years to come.

With the exception of Star Citizen, there is not a single game that I know of that currently exists that pushes the Titan X to its limits, even at 4K resolution. So the new 2080Ti is faster. It doesn't matter - no game requires that much power at the moment.

(PS- I really look forward to when game makers release new games that DO use GPUs with such power, I will then gladly upgrade. Until then, Titan X is still more than enough GPU for gaming.)
