Sounds like he said "arc" range, as I understand it energy weapons don't shoot in straight lines but arc because of sideways movement of the ship, I won't pretend I know wth I am talking about I just remember reading it somewhere other people smarter than me can confirm or clarify better lol.

So, in my understanding, ist like an electric arc, flashover, something like this. But why can't Jake put this into numbers? I'm still lost in understanding the issue.

I thought he was talking about the firing arcs like for turrets and gimbals.
Ya I also thought about that, I wasn't quite sure but I wouldn't think those arcs would be that hard to calculate so I went the other route.

@Black Sunder Its both, I guess: in order to understand of what range Jake is speaking its essential to understand what he means by "arc range of different guns", I think.

@Stevetank I don't know the word - could you explain pls...?
Firing arcs, the degrees of rotation that a gun has.

Fixed guns have a 0-3° firing arc.

Gimballed have a 0-15° firing arc.

Turrets can have a 0-360° firing arc.

Some ships have these arcs blocked by the ship hull, so they end up having less of an arc.

This is my educated guess

The firing arc of a weapon is the area that in can cover.
The FOV (field of view) of a weapon, if you will.
