1. 99% of people who talk about barbecue are actually talking about grilling.

2. Being shit at cooking meat is not something to be proud of, but rather something a man should keep to himself, or better yet, rectify.

3. Lazily and wastefully throwing money away on cheap shit goods is no way to go through life. At least pretend like you think you're worth more than that.

4. People who destroy their bodies on cheeseburger diets never got permission from Southrons to pretend the be our representatives. Kindly cease and desist.

5. This characterization of Aussie "barbecue" sounds about right for a nation founded by a bunch of degenerate criminal exiles.

Grilling does not mean BBQ. That said, the most emphatic BBQ die hards are in the south eastern US, and the different BBQ diehards of Texas. BBQ means slow roasted pork, either the shoulder, ribs, or whole hog. Smoke is almost always involved, but some try to get away with not smoking it. True BBQ is cooked with coals from burned down hard wood. Some try to use gas or even an oven. I admit, most of the time I put a rub on a shoulder then toss it into the oven to cook Low/Slow for hours, then shred it...but it’s not BBQ, Just slow roasted pulled pork.

In Texas, BBQ means slow roasted beef brisket, but you can also get sausage as well (German thing). I prefer western Carolina style vs eastern Carolina, and my ribs Memphis style. The Salt Lick BBQ joint near Austin (not the airport location) is a good example of Texas BBQ, but I preferred coopers in Llano from when I went there 10 years ago. Not sure if the quality is still up there or not, but it was good back then.

Grilling is burgers, shrimp (prawns), various sausages, steaks, chicken, chops, etc, stuff you cook hot and fast. That said, even in the BBQ wasteland that is northern Illinois, we know that grilling =/= BBQ

As someone raised in Canada, I had a very different definition of BBQ, but the description that @Thalstan wrote is far more accurate to how I see it now that I've lived in my wife's home town in Texas for 10 years. I've also traveled a bit around the southern US for my job in that time, so I am very aware of the different styles. What we did in Canada was not BBQ, we just use a thing called the BBQ to cook meat - and there's no way that propane is suitable for much beyond a hotdog.

Here I thought Canadians just freeze dried their foods before consuming or used blue flames much like Viserion to cook their meat.

Well.. you're not entirely wrong... I'll say that. We don't freeze dry things often, there's no point if you can just freeze it outside. But we do have a fairly high percentage who appear to wish they were related to Viserion. Just note that Texas seems to have the same percentage. Who the hell eats a rib eye well done? I mean outside of Britain. Cuz shoe leather... Well never mind.

Smoking meat is done at even lower temperatures than barbecuing. Whenever I fire up the smoker, it's assumed it's gonna be an all day thing. I spent Christmas day smoking ribs, chicken, and deer. I also make sure to have some good adult beverages in supply. For Christmas, I had a good bottle of scotch.

The best part about spending all day standing in front of a smoker and drinking, you wake up the next morning not really knowing how the night ended, but your beard is infused with the smell of smoked meat, and it's been rubbing into the pillow all night. The first sensation you get when you wake up is, mmmmmmmmm.

Or you can scorch some pig ear hotdogs and eat them on styrofoam plates like a peasant.
