Advice on PC upgrade

I have 16GB. I would recommend 32.

Having 32Gb of RAM will be a good thing, but I'd wait to have that on the new rig so that it won't just be a battery over a wound that needs stitches.

The new M.2 drives are way faster than the previous generation of SSD which will mean new motherboard to support it. If I were you I'd save your money and do a complete system rebuild when you have the money for all the best, or one step down from that.

M.2 =/= faster. M.2 is just a form factor. NVMe are the fast bois, they also have nearly no benefit for gaming (although I haven't tested if it makes a difference for SC in particular).

I would just wait to swap the CPU/mobo/RAM, maybe when Intel moves to a thinner chip (I think 10nm is the next one they're working on?) or when Ryzen 3000 comes out.

That's a NVMe drive, yes.

NVMe just happens to only come in M.2 (I think they're PCI-E too)

Check out the 860 Evo and Crucial MX 500 and other drives like that. Those are regular SATA drives, but can be got in an M.2 form. M.2 =/= NVMe.

I recently added a 960 EVO (NVMe) to my system, the SC load times are now about a tenth of what they were running it from my RAID.

Okay I get you now. I've only seen M.2 and PCIe NVMe drives and last I checked the PCIe has some drawbacks, so they were all just M.2 is latest and greatest to me... Until now!
