I have seen Rift S owners say they are taking it back and refunding for a Quest instead.

Being untethered from your PC opens up whole new dimension to VR!
I seen and tried the old or previous versions a couple times and sure it's a bit cool but stuck to a cable it's a disaster waiting to happen.
So seated works best and I found that TrackIR and a good screen with much higher resolution worked just as good for me.

But this is what I was hoping VR would go some day cordless and limit is the space you got not a cable, but damn it came around a lot sooner than I expected.
This is a good direction now all remaining is a bit higher resolution and more humane price tag on the gear.

CHEERS! 🍻

Price is the biggest barrier here.

Its been said that the Quest is selling almost at cost, or hardly for any profit based off the R&D and parts that went into it.

The idea is to get people hooked on VR.

Currently the latest cell phones use the 855 Snapdragon chip, the Quest is still on the 835, so there is easily a lot of graphical improvements they could make immediately if they upgraded the chip, but it would add another $200 to the price.

Yeah the price sure is, that's what keep me from investing in VR so far but this is a lot better in price range for what you get compared to previous versions.
Maybe they will do the one version with 835 like a budged version and one 855 like a pro version in a higher price range and then maybe the 835 would drop even more.
I for sure will keep a eye on this and see where it goes, the freedom of no cord is just up my ally to peak my interest.
This is very interesting...

I own a Oculus Rift and a Quest. Tried out the Quest for the first time last night. It's a bit of a game changer in my opinion. I am always interested in getting into new technologies. The Quest has some solid advantages over the rift, though I won't be retiring it yet. Setup took minutes. It is now the only system I will be taking to parties and will be the first thing I plug people into to experience VR.

It's not as bulky as the Rift, it has some enhancements that I enjoyed such as I no longer trip over the cords. I kept expecting to collide into the cords and they just wouldn't be there. The Quest has occasional frame drops or lag, but nothing too terrible as of yet. I also was able to remote control my PC, and it functioned better than the tethered Rift as far as smoothness. So all in all, great for entertaining and free standing games.

Cost wise, you are going to pay, because I ended up buying software I already own in steam or in Oculus Rift. Great for first timers. If you can, I say find someone who owns one and demo it with them. Then decide for yourself if it's how you want to go. If you want, I'll tell you how my first multiplayer experience goes once I've tested it.

Thanks for the Video Montoya. I like hearing others impressions even after the fact. I am also curious to hear from S owners. Anyone looking at the Steam VR coming out?

It is exactly that!

No drivers to install, no cables needed. Turn it on and go.

The only negative I have is that its essentially 2004 in terms of PC graphics.

To run 1440 per eye at 70fps is taking a hell of a lot of processing power, but nothing comes close to getting you immersed in room scale environments.

Im very excited for the future of VR!

I have been looking into the Index pretty hard. I just don't think it's enough of an upgrade to justify the purchase. At least, not when I already have the Rift, Vive, and PSVR. One of the big reasons is the lack of wireless support. I run the TPcast (with openTPcast loaded up) on the Oculus and the Vive is also running wireless. So for me, going back to a cord is just not in the cards. It really is that big of a change to immersion.

That's also why I think the Quest is perfect for what it it. It is a turn-key option for getting into VR. You don't need an expensive PC or a PS4 to join in. I get the sneaking suspicion that the VR world is about to blow up.
