Anything comparable for kids today? Or is everything for kids just one big giant advertisement/product placement commercial nowadays?
Not that I am aware of. While there are still a number of shows that are not cartoons masquerading as toy commercials there does seem to be a lacking of a show like Mister Rogers and I do not think there will be another.

We never had this show growing up in South Africa, but I hear this man made a lasting impression on so many young people.
I grew up watching Mr. Robert's Neighborhood.
It was broadcast on KDKA TV from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- 40 miles from where I lived.
(Yep, that is where 'Ole Cosmic was hatched. LOL)
Yes, it was a great show & it did make a wonderful lasting impression on me.
Mr. Robert's was a terrific person.

@ThomSirveaux Thank You for posting this. Much appreciated.

I remember watching this as a kid myself. His show isn't on anymore, but they have re-vamped it into a cartoon called Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, which has many of the same characters. I watch it with my 4 y/o grand-daughter on occasion. Not bad...but is really lacking that special something Mr. Roger's brought to the show.

I remember growing up watching the shows of Mr Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, Mr Peppermint & several others that would often air either on Sunday mornings or on weekdays shortly after kids would be getting out of school. As I recall, Mr Rogers was shown on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) here in Texas, which was why there were few commercials & most of them were for other shows or content that would be shown on that channel.
