Yeah brother, I was going to restrict myself to 4 ships, but I'm looking at either 2 smaller/medium ships or one larger one. There are limitless combinations though. I may do Redeemer and a fighter. Or Redeemer and a Cutty. Or just a Valkyrie. Or, or, or....hahaha dammit
Redeemer!? Yucky. That thing looks terrible. The Tali looks way better.

It really depends on your combat skills. The light fighters are all about outmaneuvering your victim but do not give you much protection if you make a mistake and get shot at. The Hornet is just a brawler and can easily take a few hits while returning significantly more punch but its maneuverability compared to the lights is lacking. Maneuverability is not as big of a factor when starting out farther apart or in clear space and only factors in when dealing with ground combat or around large bodies like asteroids, so the Arrow and Gladius would have a hard time getting close to ships like the Sabre and Hornet to even utilize their agility without coming out of a support craft like the Idris or engaging in an asteroid belt. The Sabre, while not packing as much of a punch as the Hornet nor having as much armor, has the advantage of larger missiles and stealth which cuts down on the ability to be locked by missiles.

I enjoy flying all of them and as the game matures each seems to have very distinct advantages which makes the experience all the richer. Aesthetically I am not at all a fan of the Hornet and greatly prefer the Sabre and Gladius as my primary fighters.

But that's not to discount the Buccaneer and 300 series I just don't fly any of them to be able to say how they are. As my favorite combat ships are the Sabre, Gladius and Freelancer MIS.
Hmmmm, so it'll come down to my flight style then. I can accept this. Haha. Guess that means I need to play. Come-on February!
Get that Redeemer shit outta here, real winner of TNGS coming thru boys and girls

Ahh, you really do live in a dream bubble.
I do. I have faith that something will be made of her, eventually!

Ahhhh, the ol' Beerfarer. She's a beauty eh?
The looks didn't appeal to begin with but she's really grown on me.
Ahh, the lumbering beast. I have to say doing all of those long hauls from Hurston to Port Olisar has given me a new appreciation for her. Until I try and find my way to a bed or attempt to slow down after coming in too hot for a planetside landing. (honestly, love that the retro thrusters are weaker then the main so spinning around has saved the day many times)
That's really been part of the appeal, planning my flight instead of just chucking it all over the place like with the M50 haha. The ol' Spin And Burn has saved my arse more than once, however I can't deny drifting it past Olisar at top speed is also a bunch of fun:

So I keep thinking about the Corsair, but honestly, owning a Carrack and the StarRunner, the Corsair would be redundant, no? Or does she double as a gunship with those forward facing guns? That's a lot of hate, lol.
I think it was a bit of a mistake to label the Corsair as an "exploration ship". It seems much more in line with the Drake's answer to the Constellation - a multi-role freighter, but with a much heavier emphasis on forward firepower.

Can you explore with it? Oh absolutely, all you need is some good fuel tanks and a decent scanner. Only Drake would think to add quadruple S5 mounts, twin S4 mounts, 8 S3 missiles, and a trio of S2 turrets to cover the side and rear arcs.

To me it's much more a daily flyer than a dedicated explorer, and hits the sweet spot on crew requirements, with 4 people needed to fill all the turrets and a max of 5 if you want a co-pilot/gunner for your dakka array. In my fleet it's my "super Cutlass" when I need more cargo space or dakka delivered, but don't want to commit to bringing out the Caterpillar which will need some buddies in fighters to help me out most likely.

Mercury will be faster and have more cargo room, in addition to its smuggling potential and data storage/hacking hardware. But lacks in offense/defense hardcore comparatively.

Carrack will be much more durable and self-reliant in addition to having better/more powerful exploration equipment, but is also over twice the size and thrice the cost, with not substantially more boom, since it's weapons are geared towards self-defense.

Corsair is for exploring "Spain vs Aztec" style and leaving full of plunder. They didn't call it the Corsair for nothing!

Well then, when you put it that way, I feel justified in wanting one, haha

That does sound like a nice combo. Shit. Haha

Just got out of work brother. 2120 hrs, and I'm back in the office at 0630. . .
So yeah, I can hop on discord shortly. Just gotta shower.

How viable are the light fighters when it comes to a dog fight? I have an Arrow package from last year, but I've never flown her. And I think the Gladius is bar-none the best looking fighter there is.
I'm fond of the SH and Sabre. I sworn I'd never get rid of my Sabre, yet my hanger is empty of it, lol.
When it comes to combat ships, I think I need to get in and fly before I decide on which one. I feel like I'd love the fast and zippy Arrow or Galdius (arrow has fuel scoops, no?), But I also think that my style is more tank, a la SH. I guess what I'm saying is if have to do a voyage of discovery to see what feels right for me, especially with the new flight model.
The Gladius is a blast to fly. It is well armed, pretty robust, fast and very agile.

Haha, dammit. Now I want them all. I'm going to have to get into the game and fly some of these fighters around in arena commander. It's been so long, and without testing them with my dual sticks to see how they feel and fly, I can't make an honest evaluation as to what I want for a fighter.

I don't understand... these are not combat ships. Why do we always look at them like the stand a chance? In a head to head fight with multiple enemies they will lose, like sending a trucker out with a turret on the top. Some enemy will die but you will lose in the end unless you are the top 1% of pilots - 99% of us are not. Like doing a dog fight with a Gemini - does not work. Run Forest Run.

Off topic - maybe RSI should look at the shield in a different way. My Gemini should handle a single attacker like a mosquito. Small ships with 1-3 size weapons should be an annoyance. It should take real fire power to bring down a big ship.

We won't know until they release it, but if you want a gunship, get a gunship.

I'm not thinking of using it in a dogfight. I'm thinking of using it to attack pray. Other medium ships, or larger. Take out a Cat, or a Connie, or attack some Hills, etc

Like...the Valkyrie? Redeemer?
Get a Hull D (would have said E but its sold out and price again went up to $650). Can never go wrong with large cargo deliveries for a profit to fuel your other interests.
Not a big fan of hauling things around from a to b. I'd rather go take some stuff from some who was doing that, haha

Harr..matey perhaps a cutlass Blue would be more up your ally. Takes the best of the black and adds more armor. Im sure the internals will come with a modular choice like the vanguards.

Blue was in my hangar forever. She's been a staple of my fleet since my fleet was a thing. I reckon that she'll end up back in my fleet by the end of this sale, haha.
