Well - since they nerfed larger missiles, and since if you go down one size you get double, S1 are by far the best. MILLIONS OF THEM!!!!!

That being said, on my Vanguard I run 4 x S4 and 3 x S5 as that is bye bye most ships.

That being said, on my prowler I run 0 size 0 missiles and kill everything with the 2xS4and2xS3 gimbal ownage!

That being said, the 30 x S3 missiles on me Freelancer Mis sure do scare a few people. I sometimes scare myself!!!

Hope that helps.

Larger missiles should be able to destroy a small ship... c'mon, just keep it realistic. Like a hornet should not be able to take down or penetrate the shields of a Kracken. They should be an annoyance and no more. An Iranian fast boat is going to take down a destroyer/aircraft carrier while on the move. No... just keep it real. The only difference is the shield in SC. My opinion.

There is that prerequisite to being able actually enjoy the game experience - one must play the game! You should.. it's worth it! Just be mindful of TEST SOP which requires a shot for every bug you encounter....
Is that the standard SOP? ;)

I really do want to make time for it, dammit. I just keep finding myself doing other things. Why is life so busy?

Lately, I've been enjoying lots of size 2's, used as a distraction mostly, but when I got the target on the ropes they can finish the job.

I've been having a lot of fun in the Tana, had it forever but didn't pay attention to it until recently. Little bugger has some teeth.

I know, the Tana is finally viable.
I use a full load out of Neutron Repeaters, slightly higher overall DPS than the Gatlings, and no worries about running out of ammo or having to reload. Not that this is a real issue.
Of course it lacks the 10% chance of shield penetration, but I can live with that.

I think there must be some discrepancy over ballistic shield penetration. I was under the impression that 60% of ballistic damage always goes through the shields, and that energy weapons 100% goes to shields until they are down. Are you saying this is not true?

I am extremely impressed with the Tana since the rework. I'm convinced it is the best starter fighter and has benefits way past what people presume.

First of all, so far as I am aware it is the stealthiest ship in game. Combined with 20 S2 missiles this makes it a shadow assassin's dream come true. Starting bounty hunters will love this ship. Equipped with a Snowblind and a Slipstream, this ship has an EM sig of just 128. I'm pretty sure this is the lowest in game by a wide margin. All the missiles make this advantage enormous. Think about what sort of ship or pilot can manage with 16k damage incoming and just 2-3 seconds warning.

Secondly, the selection of 6 S2 guns is extraordinary. Currently I suggest all Scorpions until the pilot is proficient then switch to Sledge's. Either way that is a ton of firepower for any pilot.

Thirdly, it not only has beds but it has a second seat. That means you can use this bird to train NPCs as turret gunners once their released. That is a huge big deal. Even if you never use the NPC as a turret gunner in the Tana, just having access to a top-tier turret gunner is really nice, and if you intend to upgrade one day from the Tana to a Sentinal, you'll want that gunner.

Forthly, the Reliant has a fuel refueling probe that has never been mentioned in any other frame. It appears this is the perfect escort for Star Farers. Whether hired on as escort or piloted by an NPC for the gas miner owner, this is a good choice. Even given NPC escort pilots are very limited in their abilities, one suspects the AI for their missiles will be the same, and the Tana has a lot of missiles.

It used to be the 325 was considered an upgrade from the Tana, and now the Tana is considered an upgrade from the 325. Personally I would not want to be in a Prowler with a Tana hunting me. I think the Prowler would lose that exchange, especially since it has no missiles and no countermeasures.

It depends on the grade and class of the shield. In a nutshell, a Civilian grade, class C shield will slow the ballistic round so it only does around 60% damage. Now a Competition grade, Class A shield will slow the ballistic round down so it only does 10% damage, that sort of thing.

I am sure we will not be able to totally negate the damage, but by using the highest grade and class of shield, we can negate a good bit of it.
Or at least, in theory, that is how it is supposed to work.

  • Grade A - The best possible performance, usually has an additional Sub Item slot.
  • Grade B - A good upgrade to performance, may have an additional Sub item slot.
  • Grade C - The standard item for most ships be default, average performance.
  • Grade D - Lower grade, generally makes up the NPC/AI populace, good for emergency use to get through troubles.

  • Competition - Higher performing than military but at the expense of durability and stealth, performance over everything.
  • Military - The best overall at that item’s functionality, at the expense of emissions and cost.
  • Industrial - Reliably high output and low wear, high emissions.
  • Civilian - The most common, wide range of behaviours to suit cost, options to approximate all other categories but not as specific.
  • Stealth - Vastly reduced signatures/consumption at the expense of functionality.

I think someone sold you some misinformation about Grade A shields. They do not nor are they intended to do what you're describing. It is because people want them to that they're complaining so much about the Sledge and Strife weapons, but those weapons are acting the way CIG designed them to.

Interesting that at the first link there are no scanners, which implies they'll continue to scale with radar, and in the second link they are separate.

Nothing goads me more than the lack of attention to the sensor/EM Warfare dynamics. They were scheduled to be released with the Sentinel and there's been no word about them for ages. . .

LOL, don't get me started with my issues with scanners and how they are implemented. We would need to pack a lunch...
