To me it says "the roadmap as presented does not and cannot accurately represent development on a AAA chapter-based, story-driven game like SQ42."

However you did call it correctly on Anthem, so I'm not going to be so simple as to say your viewpoint isn't valid 😉

I am interested, in the case of Anthem, did you have info other than that which was available to the rest of us to call it so spot-on? And additionally, do you have additional information in regard to S42 which we great unwashed may not know about?
No, I didn't know anything special, I know I put a ton of hours into that game in the first 2 weeks and when I hit the end game I was like... are you kidding me?
Think I ended up with 70-80hrs it wasn't hard to figure out that most people were going to feel the same way, after awhile you just tend to know what makes a game successful and what doesn't and it didn't have anything to do with personal taste, this was just a lack of content from a AAA company who sold this game like it was gods gift to us gamers and it was far from it lol.

I don't know what to say about SQ 42, I know we were watching video's of Gary Oldman in 2015 and its almost 2021, the games buggy as hell and every patch brings newer bigger bugs, I know the road map says Beta Q3 2020, no way that is happening lol. I heard they are hiring like 90+ people and there is only one reason for that, they trying to get SQ42 as fast as possible, I think they don't want to tell us its going to be another year before its done.

At some point, there has to be an end to all this, this endless alpha can't go on forever, at this rate the core game is 3+ years out and I don't know about you but a 60 hr campaign (that's about the average these days) that I will have will done less than 2 weeks doesn't cut it for me, I want the P.U. that is what I signed up for, that is what I invested thousands of dollars into along with about 90% of the rest of us. And I think CIG will sell this in chapters or a "live service" type deal, again, if they do this I think that is unacceptable, I hope I am wrong I would rather just have it all done and over with personally so they can focus on the real game.

I ask people, if CIG came out today and said, were scrapping SQ42 but that means will have the P.U. core game up and running in a years time I for one would be like, fuck ya screw SQ42 and I bet most of the others would agree lol. They may not admit it, but we all know the answer.

Cyberpunk (Obviously)
Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption
Half Life Alyx (I know its out, but I haven't been able to play it due to being overseas away from my headset)
Star Wars: Squadrons has my attention. Just hoping EA doesn't screw it up. They did a decent job keeping their greedy monetization out of Fallen Order so I'm hopeful.
That new Marvel Avengers Game looks interesting.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Far Cry 6....maybe

I can honestly say that to me the PU is a distraction until the game I originally signed up for is ready. And that is SQ42.
Remember that the original kockstarter didn't even have the Pu? Yeah, I want my Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman cinematic single player classic space shooter and if they were to scrap it I'd be very very disappointed to put it mildly.

That's not true actually, the original kickstarter video's he talks about SQ42 and the P.U. matter of fact he says in the video you will have a choice of not even having to do SQ42 and jump right into the universe and be whatever you want to be. I suggest you rewatch the video because its clear the P.U. and SQ42 were both in the original concept and that is what sold this game to the public.

Lets not kid ourselves here, the funding for this game is largely for the P.U. if this had been a single player campaign only there is no way it would have even remotely brought in this kind of funding, most of their funding comes from concept ships and selling ships, these ships never would have been implemented in a single player campaign and that would eliminate like 95% of their funding lol.

This is a myth that keeps eluding people, the P.U. was in the original kickstarter but people focused on SQ42 for some reason, most likely because he did Wing Commander and referenced it many times.

Also funny is, one of the first things he says in one of the original kickstarter video's is that the reason he left the business in the first place was that Freelancer took 4 years to make and 2 more years to get it to the public and he felt the business got to big and corporate and it was more about being part of a big company lol. I mean I wonder what he thinks when he watches that segment lol.

No way SQ42 releases this year lmao, this is a dream. If it releases it will be a test chapter or some BS like that and I could only imagine the bugs and issues it will have, it would be a huge mistake to release SQ42 anytime this year imo.

This was part of their March statement about SQ42

"We want to be clear: progress on Squadron 42 is happening and we’re broadly happy with that progress. But we know that our roadmap is not reflecting that progress. Over time, we’ve found that the roadmap as presented does not and cannot accurately represent development on a AAA chapter-based, story-driven game like SQ42. So, we’re going back to the proverbial drawing board to explore different approaches for Squadron 42."

This to me says SQ42 is nowhere near completion and as I said a few years ago I have this sinking feeling the game will be released as a "live service" done in chapters which imo is nothing more than selling an unfinished product loaded with bugs and issues just to make a deadline.

I hope I am wrong but all to often lately so many companies have resorted to this tactic, release the game and fix it as you go. :(

I strongly believe you are not wrong. As much as CIG has been pulling all of its development staff into its development I have a feeling we will be lucky to see the beta by next dec. Then again there was something dropped in the last calling all dev's sq42 that made it seem like they are gearing up for a big announcement end of this year. And the showing off of several assets for SQ42 during the fleet week also shows great progress.

I hope I am wrong, also when they put out the hiring thing who knows, maybe they can get it done sooner by spending more $$.

The only way they can get it done sooner is to stop putting more and more crazy new shit into the game.

I've already made my statement, I think, so I'm mostly here reading each post & passing out smacks to the LIKE button in 1 way or another.

I joined the project initially because it was offered to me for free with the purchase of a graphics card that I was already going to purchase. Most expensive FREE game I've ever enjoyed, but well worth it to me. Since I was a small boy, I've dreamed of being able to run around & do things like dog fighting in space with Mark Hamill after watching Star Wars. If I willingly gave up on that just to speed up enjoying the PU, my inner child would beat my ass beyond raw so that I wouldn't be able to sit down & enjoy the PU either. So I want both & I'm willing to wait while hoping that they'll speed up development as they come out with the new tools that they've been creating to do so.

Also funny is, one of the first things he says in one of the original kickstarter video's is that the reason he left the business in the first place was that Freelancer took 4 years to make and 2 more years to get it to the public and he felt the business got to big and corporate and it was more about being part of a big company lol. I'd wager that CR would probably rub his head while shaking it & say something along the lines of, "hehehe, well that statement didn't age well almost a decade later."

Eff me sideways. I stand corrected!
You are right, it was actually mentioned in the original kckstrer video. Still, I don't understand why are you so butthurt about people wanting to see sq42 get done and playable as well...
I agree that most of the funding is for the PU, but the initial pledges were'nt. It was always the old guard that wanted a new Single Player WC/Freelancer/Freespace, not the CoD kiddies.
Ppl including me keep thinking it was SQ42 first, because the original trailer was sooo Wing Commander-y one couldn't really notice anything else, and it was what they concentrated on early after the kickstarter was over, and that's what we had any real news about I guess with all the casting, filming and shit. Reading "we will have a 1000 star systems" is not really something you can grasp, seeing actors and behind the scenes vids and interviews with them in the media, that catches the mind better.

My choice still stands. Squadron before PU, cos that's what I care about more. The whole argument is kinda pointless as the core tech teams (Ai, flight, physics etc..) are developing it for both, the network team is deving PU ofc, and that basically leaves assets which we already have plenty of, so I doubt canceling sq42 would make PU dev that much faster.

Well, I am not butt hurt over it, I try to have intelligent criticism not just complaints, I feel I have been around long enough and invested enough to have the right to put my 2 cents in like everyone else lol.

As for the argument of SQ42 over PU again if SQ42 was not the reason for pushing the PU so far behind schedule I would care less, fact is the professions, the ships core gameplay mechanics are being shoved aside to release a single player campaign that they already admitted the first episode was only around 20 hrs but they expanded its chapters so I imagine it may be a little longer now, but seriously so much effort to make a 20-30 hr campaign most people will have done in the first week or two. Meh. Give me what I paid for, a persistent universe where I can go where I want and be what I want, that is what 99% of us are waiting for.

I really think when SQ42 releases people are going to shocked at how quick its over and were right back to square 0 waiting on the PU. And we don't even know how the Episodes are going to release yet, do we get 1 and 2? I know there will be 3 but early on they said 3 will come later and most likely have to pay for it, did this change? Do we only get 1 now and 2 and 3 come later? I mean there really has not been a definitive answer and until the game actually goes into the market we will honestly never know, a lot of factors here will determine SQ42's success.

Well, hopefully, they release the episodes yearly or bi-yearly as they are supposed to be how CIG funds their development staff and hosting costs of the PU.

If they release episodes yearly we are in trouble, like I said they made a statement about SQ42 Episode 1 being about 20 hrs long, that is really short by todays standards, I don't see many people paying top $$ for a 20 hr campaign. :( I have a feeling they added chapters to extend to the campaign maybe pushing it to 30hrs but who knows.

According to the Squadron 42 Road Map there are now 28 Chapters planned, so I'm hoping they'll be quarterly releases.
This is the most recent topic I can find on SQ42 by PC gamer Jan 2020

"Episode 1—which we’ll just call Squadron 42 from now on—will take place across 28 chapters. Back in 2015, when it was only planned to be 21 chapters long, head of CIG Chris Roberts said it’d take around 20 hours to complete, which is still the latest estimate we have."

"Squadron 42 is a standalone single player campaign in the Star Citizen universe, fully playable offline. It was announced as an episodic trilogy, which many people seem to have forgotten, and each episode will be a fully-fledged game in its own right. CIG are calling Episode 1 simply ‘Squadron 42’. Work on Episode 2, called Behind Enemy Lines, and an unnamed Episode 3 has already begun. In terms of the Star Citizen timeline, Episode 1 is set before the events of the main game (aka the ‘persistent universe’). CIG has not yet said when Episodes 2 and 3 are set."

It was also said each Episode would be its own game and that means we would have to pay for Episode 2 and 3 as Episode 1 is being called "Squadron 42" I think some of the early backers are getting Episode 2 but not 3, not sure how that works.

Again, this is just from reading several posts on different formats including CR interviews, most of the information seems to be consistent though. That being said if SQ42 is around 20ish hrs long its going to be a huge disappointment, I just completed Ghosts of Tsushima in 6 days and that was over 40hrs. 20hrs wouldn't last 1 week for most of us.

A day to a day and an half for some of us, then a week to get all the SQ42 unlocks for PU.

As usual the crew at IG get it completely wrong again. The first statement about how SC split into two games had me raging lol. I mean they can't even get the first 60 seconds of the clip factually right and yet they get thousands of views from spreading false information. And people wonder why the world is so F'd up when so many people are out there giving misleading and false information.

You know like Cheetohead sitting in the White House still telling people to take hydroxychloroquine!!

I'm ready to wait a few more years for the PU. I really want SQ42 in the meantime. Im not super hyped so I don't get disappointed (not saying im expecting to be, but with everything in life, you can't overhype things) but I am looking forward to seeing what CIG can put together as a finished product. If they scrapped SQ42, I don't think I would care about the PU anymore as it would show me they just dont have what it takes to accomplish their goals. But I don't see that happening so I'm not worried about it.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the new console launches, specifically eyeing the new PS5. I'm also waiting for the GTX 3080 / 3090 to drop so I can really push 4K gaming and the likes.

I definitely am excited to play the new Assassins Creed game, that's for sure. And of course there's cyberpunk.

For now, I'm playing Pokemon Sword which is just simple and easy, but its a nice nostalgia trip and really relaxing.

I'm also playing the dragonball Z RPG, which I love. It's a meh game for anyone not a fan of the series, but if youre a fan, it's amazing. It's like playing through the anime, a lot of original voice actors, the fact that they got the 3D environment to look like the scenery in the anime is pretty cool. The fighting is simple but it looks awesome. When I say play through the anime, it's almost shot for shot from the series. I'm not sure how many seasons it gets through, but im like only a couple episodes in to season 1 and Ive played a few hours.
