So question on some ideas I have regarding my fleet choices... I plan on playing mostly solo with group play being large-group play rather than just me and another person or two. I also play keyboard/mouse if that's a consideration. I currently have...
Corsair - 3m insurance (Game Package
Talon - 6m insurance
Talon Shrike - LTI
Vanguard Warden - LTI
Redeemer - LTI
Polaris - LTI
Prospector - LTI
Reclaimer - LTI
Saber - LTI
BMM - LTI

With my current expected playing, I'm not so sure the Vanguard (or any of the heavy fighters other than the F8 if it's single-crew) are really the way to go. What are your opinions on dropping the Vanguard ($260), Shrike ($90), and Talon ($100) for a second Saber ($170) or Super Hornet ($180) and Eclipse ($300).

Alternatively, I could melt everything and get the Anvil Complete Pack, but I don't like the idea of losing my Redeemer and larger ships and not to sure about the ability to mix-and-match.

Also, please let me know your suggestions as well, I haven't been keeping too close a watch on things so might have missed some changes/updates that would skew decisions.

Thanks much!

Have you considered an Ares? Single seat heavy fighter without the range limitations of the fighters not named Vanguard or Ares.
I am both an Eclipse and a Vanguard fan. The Eclipse has a very limited mission profile. It does one thing and one thing only.

I have an idea other than the one I am going to cover here, but I have to do some math.

Wait until Drake day starts on Saturday..
Melt the Corsair, buy a starter with 10 years insurance and CCU to the Corsair. (If you can't get the Corsair Saturday, no harm in waiting for IAE instead.)
Melt the Talon. CCU the Shrike to the Hornet, the Cutlass Blue, the Super Hornet or the Ares.
CCU the Vanguard (or the Redeemer) to the Eclipse.

My other recommendation involves the Escort Pack, but I have to do some math. :)

Well, firstly I wouldn't be too worried about single/multiplayer ships, as I understand it, solo players will likely get ample opportunities to turn most (if not all) multi-crew ships into solo experience with some computer blades and a few hired NPCs.

So I'd focus more on what sort of gameplay are you looking for, I see a bunch of mission runners here, trade, salvage, mining, corsair for ground operations... Well, I think you're pretty much set. The only reason to change anything would be if you actually preferred some other ship, like, Eclipse? Sure, go for it. But composition wise your fleet is solid.

Ooooo, I did forget about the Ares... hrm Will have to see if I can find something on if they can fit in the Polaris hangar or not... getting the image of a large-ship hunt where the big-cannon ares pops out to add its direct shots to the torpedos, hrm... EDIT: damn, doesn’t look like it’ll be able to.

Though I do think I have to keep the Corsair since it’s my PU/SQ42 package, not sure if they’ve changed how that works but will keep an eye out.

That’s true about the blades and AI hirelings... perhaps it’s just these ship-day events making me forget past times when I hashed all this out before. For some reason, though, Vanguard is just feeling like a big odd duck in my brain though whereas the gladius-cum-saber always felt like a smooth experience. Thanks much!

The Ares doesn't fit in a Polaris but it shouldn't have to. It should have the range, even without the ridiculous fuel tank buffs the Herc and the MSR have.

Is SQ42 listed seperately than the Corsair?
Can you give me your melt prices for the Polaris, the Sabre, the Talon, the Shrike the Corsair and the Vanguard please?

Don't melt them, just the melt prices. :) I was going to do the math but I don't know the routes you took to get where you are. :)

Corsair was CCU’s from one of the old packages containing PU and SQ42 games.
Will get the prices after work in about 11hours

Never mind about the actual numbers, you can figure those but given the ships in question I doubt there is $185 difference.

This is the math on the base numbers. .

Tomorrow, since the Corsair should be available at the start of Drake day. If you melt the Corsair, the Polaris, the Redeemer, the Warden, talon and Shrike. (Current Market value $1810)
Purchase the Escort Pack https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Escort-Pack Which includes both the PU and SQ42 ($1325)
CCU the Hammerhead to the Polaris. ($25)
CCU the Defender to the Redeemer ($30)
CCU the Terrapin to the Eclipse ($80)
CCU the Gladius to the Corsair ($125)
You also have a Sabre and a Super Hornet, (The Super Hornet you can CCU to an Ares if you decide to for $35.)

Cost is $1585 or $1620

Now you have LTI on everything, 20K starting cash and should have some store credit left over.

If the game package is really special, then you can ask Concierge Support to strip the CCU off the Game package and credit that to your account. They probably will.

If you want to keep the package, then you gain a Gladius and should still be close to even.

No way will I melt the Warden / Harbinger / Sentinel. I like the idea of the Vanguard series for anticipated long-range / jump point missions. Not every mission may be up close.

I like the Ares and Eclipse as other solo friendly ships.

Ahh, nice! Will definately take a look into that tomorrow when my brain's less fried. I forgot the bundle packs also contained the actual game for some reason. Just spent a good 12 hours working on pension calculations and 8 year old back wage issues so not as willing to dig into this just yet XD. Thank you very much for your research, I also figured some people may look at this issue as a bit of a puzzle as well like the types I used to enjoy.

That thinking was the very thing that sold me on the Vanguard concept in the first place, then the fleet started growing again and I took a deep look into my playstyles and how flying the ship felt and it just always felt... not meh, but more of "this isn't really my speed." Similar to how, in World of Warships, I know some ships are good and I understand how to play them to their strengths, but it just doesn't make me wholly satisfied with the experience.

And yeah, those two are perking my ears up more and more these days. For some reason I kept thinking the Eclipse was two-man for some reason...

I dunno, but thanks everyone for for the input! I'm not as active on here as I used to be, so appreciate it. Night all!

Not all the bundle packs do. The Complete Anvil pack, for example does not.

The Eclipse and Ares are both Single seaters, without an interior. The Eclipse is supposed to be a little shorter ranged than the Vanguard but it has, roughly, twice the range of any other small ship. The Ares should have roughly the same range of the Vanguard, which is why I recommend the Ares to complement your Sabre instead of the Super Hornet.

I have, intentionally, limited my fleet to one Carrier Fighter (The Hawk in my case).

I figure I need to be able to be on a carrier for Test, but I don't want to be a burden on our carriers.

I'll keep my comment & suggestions brief. Nice fleet. Use this time to rent for free ALL of the ships that have been available to test during this week to know how you feel about each of those you are considering that is available. I can't say how any of the ships that haven't been released yet will handle / feel, but I can say that those that have been released & that are available to TEST out currently, can let you know how they feel currently. Cheers!

Some very good advice on this thread....With that being said I recommend a good aged Scotch before during and after game play :like:

If you're not doing small group play, I don't understand the Redeemer, Prospector, Reclaimer or Corsair. Though you'll be able to hire turret gunners for the Redeemer, it's doubtful you'll be able to hire an expert drone commander for the Reclaimer, etc. I would look to those four first, then eliminate the other ships that are simply redundant. Keep in mind that hiring NPCs render's their station mostly ineffective as they're not as capable as players, and AI is worse still. So ask yourself why fly around with big turrets on the Redeemer when they don't hit their targets? Makes no sense. It only barely makes sense with the small turret on the Vanguard.

I would certainly consider the Eclipse, Vulcan and Defender. You want the Defender just to get hold of the Sukoran for your Vanguard (use just 1, paired with an FR-76.) As always I recommend the Sentinel over the Warden, if you have any interest in the stealth dynamic in game.

While I'm on the subject note that the Polaris is very likely to get an upgrade to twin S5 turrets and the Apocalypse Arms S5 Ballistic Gattling will be out by then (~1700 m/s. I think it is very unlikely CIG will keep the twin S4 turrets after release of the HH and I would not be surprised if they upgrade the chin mount to S6.

My brother and I tried putting our credits together for a Kraken but fell short by a hundred fifty dollars. Capitals are just getting to expensive now. I guess we will just wait for the new Anvil Cap to come out.
There's a new Drake Complete bundle out today, but it's $4200 Warbond. Which if you bought them all warbond currently you'd save approx $200 with that deal.

I heard a rumor leak about the potential Anvil cap ship & if the speculation about it being about the size of the Polaris but focusing on cannons like a supersized Perseus are correct, then I'm definitely interested in adding that to my fleet in the future.
