Hello TESTies,

Baby Owl, who's now pushing 7, has expressed interest (read: he's fucking stoked) in starting a YouTube channel for all his Minecraft stuff.

I'm looking for help here. I need to know what to get him to start this. What technology(cams, mics, etc)? Can I set it up so it's safe? How do I go about the basic steps? Editing videos, if so what software?

And any questions that I'm too disconnected to know to ask.

Help and Owl out. Actually, help me help Little Howler. Or NinjaHowler. Whatever he ends up going with. Haha.

Thanks my TESTies.

Sorry I can't actually help with the requirement...but tell him I vote for "Little Howler". That's a fantastic name.

But I have a question for you.
Thanks my TESTies.
Did you happen to say this out loud to see what it would sound like? Just asking.

Be wart of having a youngster on camera, TOS may get muddy.

OBS is a great recording and streaming software that I use to capture stuff with.

For a mic, any USB one will do since a lot of it is more settings than mic quality. But an AT2020 or Blue Yeti work great.

TOS notwithstanding, that's a good thing to be wary of. It's probably not a good idea to put his face or anything that might help some nut identify him or where you live in a video. All kinds of nuts around these days.

Owl.. it's my opinion that this is a set of dice not worth picking up off the table. Having said that...

Get to know the LAW. Canada is slightly different than US, but both are minefields regarding children and video.
Strongly suggest no livestream, and comments turned off. If he just wants to do this with friends, there are safer methods.
Private streams are not completely private, and Google has repeatedly shown that it won't manage the crap (read that as 'malicious sites and software' ) that get posted in comments.

Yeah, I'm playing that role of naysayer. IRL I've been a white hat, and the current role still calls upon that occasionally.

Our daughter uses OBS and Open shot for her videos. Adobe Premiere works better than open shot but it costs money. We got her a budget razer mini siren mic. She does a video here and there, nothing serious. She records on secondary pc (4670 & 1080ti). Videos can get big and take forever to encode if the quuality is decent.

Yeah, we have no intention of live streaming whatsoever, and comments off for sure. He just wants to make videos for his friends, and family I reckon. We want to make it as safe as possible, and just let him have fun.

I'll get familiar with the TOS and laws here in Canada. When you say there are safe ways, what are they?
