This time rather than a decoration for my office, I needed something functional… a drink coaster!

Started in Inkscape getting the artwork right.

Then it was time to send the file to the Glowforge.

Amazon sent the wrong color paint, but I decided to just roll with it. Gold Leaf gives it an Origin vibe. Fancy!

Masking removed!

More pics to come when it’s dry and cured.

Let me know your thoughts!

These are terrible, send them to me so I can throw them away!
When I get them dialed in a bit more, I'll send you a few of course!

It looks really effing cool!

The lasering lines make it look like it was 3d printed (layer lines), but the shine of the acrylic is real pretty!
Thank you! This is what they call a "raster engrave". I used the draft (rough) settings just to see how it would look. Later this week I'm going to step up the resolution and hopefully smooth out lines a bit more.

What're you currently thinking for pricing on these or waiting to do pricing after you get the quality dialed in where you want it?
I'm aiming to keep it under $15 shipped, inside the US. I'm heading to the post office today to get some quotes.

Hey Fellow Laserer - that's some cool work!
Thank you! What kind of laser? What kind of work do you do with it?

Hey Doc, yeh I been lasering for a few years now - only as a hobby/fun but really my machine is so darn good I should do some proper printing for people.

I picked up a second hand Universal VersaLaser 3.50 from ebay for a good price. It's an industrial printer rather than a hobbyist. It was a bit of a crazy purchase and my parents thought I had gone insane (bare in mind i live in a 1 bed flat and....it kinda cost more than my car..). Have no regrets and if anything due to the ever increasing price of everything it's kinda worth more now that it was back then so....

Two things that atracted me to it:
1. FRIKKIN LASERS
2. Made in AMERRICCAAAAAA F** YEAAHHHHHH

Mostly do engraving onto things - glass, slate, granite, paper, powdercoated steel, anodised alumunium, cardboard, bit of wood.

You should try engraving onto slate - it comes out real nice!

Done a bit of cutting too - did a load of Acrylic soldiers last year for Remembrance week for all the Veterans that live by me to put in their windows and they came out lush. (the vets ended up donated some monies towards the Royal British Legion poppy appeal).

Of course I have done a bit of stuff for TEST in the past but really I should do more for you guys.

I did some granite wallplaques for CIG to put in their new (back in 2017) manchester studio. No idea if they ever fitted them or if they've kept them.

Anyway don't want to take over your thread any more than I already have so if you need any help give me a shout i might not have done much lately but I learned a lot :D

Wow! I'd say you're as mental as I am. I drive a 2000 Honda CRV 250k miles, but have a Glowforge and a Langmuir CNC Plasma table. 🤣 You've done some really, really nice work. I love the TEST glassware. I'm constantly learning new techniques... and buying new tools so I will definitely reach out to you for pointers.

Hi five mental brother!!!

2000 Nissan Patrol here (only 120k miles) :D

I have to admit I am well jealous of the plasma table I would love one but no room at all for it - I would also like a 3 axis CNC. Metal is awesome!!! One day!! For now it's Lasering and 3d printing for me smaller devices that fit in my small house :)

I'll have to watch a few vids on that glowforge I am out of date on modern stuff - mines from 2008.

Here’s the final prototype before production. 4” x 7”. It should accommodate most large mugs, tumblers, bottles and cans.
I’ll be posting an ad for these in the Marketplace soon. They’ll be $15 shipped in the lower 48.

This first image makes the in-lay look silver, but it’s semi gloss gold as in the last pics.
