The Galaxy is a cool ship. With the Galaxy, CIG is delivering on what part of the community has asked for all along - a ship that can do most anything. And, arguably, with it being presented as a medical, refining, and freight hauling ship (with more to come), the Galaxy is in that category. The base ship even comes with a pool table!

So why am I not excited by it? CIG's handling of the insurance (LTI) model. Not being able to CCU to a Galaxy 'variant' equiped with a module was one thing, but also not being able to purchase stand alone LTI modules even with fresh cash? Didn't seem cool. CIG could have handled that differently. Seeing that they didn't also drained interest I had in dropping $500+ for a full Galaxy package.
Do any of the people who think this way own an Endeavour? It was sold exactly the same way. LTI for the whole thing at once, otherwise 10 years piecemeal.

The Endeavor is priced that way to specifically get the 1k value for LTI. When it came out though, it had modules that were LTI as well during the concept sale, and the Retaliator modules were the same way. I am disappointed they didn’t have a 5 dollar break for a warbond version of the modules With LTI.

That said, I am hoping that if they can’t get modules working right away, the complete version will come with all three as a loaner instead of being stuck with a single ship with cargo while the pre-configured come with refinery or med bays.

one thing to note though…it looks like some of the design is very similar to the Perseus. I wonder if that will allow them to get the Perseus out fairly quickly. Since it’s just a combat ship with guns, I can see them getting that ship out quickly without a lot of R&D.

If all they did was change the external size, that should work well. It brings up a question though, the space that the Galaxy has for modules should also be available on the Perseus at a slightly smaller scale - but what is it used for?

Let's see... $10 CCU to Galaxy inside a LTI pack..
use credits to buy the modules then melt and have them in buyback until ship is flyable..
Okey.... Seem like a no brainer to me..
Done!

Indeed Endeavor stand-alone modules were sold with LTI. Here is a screenshot of modules in my account showing that.

To answer your question, yes, I own an Endeavor .... and stand alone LTI modules.

The Galaxy sale was different, with concept modules offered without LTI outside of ship packages. Such an all-or-none sale format essentially led cash-paying LTI buyers to purchase full packages with extra modules they might not have wanted or needed just to access LTI for a module they wanted. The Galaxy might be modular, but the sales format for cash-paying LTI module buyers was not.

Unfortunately our Galaxy package owners can look forward to their hinted-at future stand-alone modules not coming with LTI either, if yesterday's sale is the new norm for module concept sales.

The Galaxy was sold differently. With stand-alone modules being non-LTI, the sale led buyers who wanted LTI towards purchasing a whole package to get LTI modules, including modules they might not have been wanted. It was not possible to buy a medical galaxy and add just one more stand-alone LTI module,f or example. A package with multiple modules was needed access that next LTI module. So much for the concept of .... modularity ... if we need to buy them all to get LTI. The ship might be modular, but the sale really wasn't modular for LTI buyers.

I noticed that too, My assumption is that CIG wanted real money instead of people upgrading to having LTI on it.

Well my Galaxy have LTI and it's not warbond....
A upgrade with credits on a ship inside LTI game pack and the Galaxy also have LTI...
As for the modules 120 month insurance.. that's a very long time almost as good as LTI..

I guess we can’t compare this with the Railen since we don’t have SCM speeds, but I still think this is a lot of ship for the price. I expect we’ll see lots of solo pilots ignoring the pool table and turrets, telling us how this is a great solo ship and losing them to pirates, in about 8 years.

And we will raise a beer to our fellow space farers. in the meanwhile the TEST team will be laughing over throwing the corpses of a failed pirate boarding crew out of the airlock of one of our Galaxies

I didn't buy it during 2019, I was still in the hospital during IAE so didn't get to see it. I did buy it in 2020, and that year at least, and since, you either bought the whole enchilada in one package that came with LTI, or the ship and modules you wanted separately with 10 year insurance. That's the same model they're using here.

Was sitting here trying to imagine which ship I'll be flying in the most. While I still imagine the ill spend most of my time on the bridge of the Orion distracted mining as part of operation strip mine the galaxy, the Carrack and Polaris had the potential of allowing more adventures. But now the Galaxy brings so much unexpected customizability, given I truly felt CIG was moving away from this kind of design, in a nice sized package.

I think I may be using either my Connie w/ snub or the Carrack with the C8R to keep me alive for solo. In groups its either the Polaris or the Galaxy.

If the Merchantman ever sees the light of day I may just live in it and wave to everyone as I pass by

The Galaxy makes compromises that don't appear to make sense.
The weapons loadout is poorly thought out, specifically: Size 5 is anti-large ship, but it is clearly not a combat vessel so needs defensive turrets, which means size 4.

The module appears too large to easily transport.
It appears to be too wide to load into a Hercules, or fit in a Liberator's cargo area. You might be able to fit it oon a liberator vehicle pad, but will that work? Can it fly without a module? If you want to move your base you have to make multiple trips, returning with a hole in the middle.

The competitors for the Galaxy appear to be the Caterpillar and the Retaliator, but both of those appear to fill the general purpose role better since they have multiple modules on the ship, giving you greater flexibility.

If I was still buying ships, this doesn't make my list.

All good points which time will give answers too. I think though they will listen to the players and will change some things out. Probably a new layout and type of weaponry as well as a second shield. Likely a redesign of the hangar.
I need to look more into a lot of the aspects of the game. I was hoping it would be go to a station and swap out to the mod you want but it's intriguing to the context of having to go back empty to collect another mod to move it.

If someone has a Liberator, you might be able to find a better way of moving things like that.
There are a lot of Liberators in TEST. There are a lot of whatever you need or need help with in TEST.
