Historically speaking, the Chinese people have cared a LOT about how their "honor" was perceived by others. Unfortunately for them, while their culture still claims that, their government obviously uses that as a smoke screen to conceal that they're nothing except worthless thieves without any. Which can be proven by how many things that Chinese companies have taken & made overwhelming ripoffs of from across the globe, then denied they did it while being offended & making threats if those that were stolen from didn't take back their words. Hell, China would never have been able to have nuclear tech if not for their spies stealing the tech from the US & USSR. So I've never had any fear of the Chinese military surpassing us in tech, because you can never do so while using spies to steal it from others.
My sister in-law lived in China for a decade and she says the entire country is toxic as result of the one child policy and severe lack of women to go around. She says Chinese men cannot work together in groups because of the extreme competition they have between each other. There’s some sense in that.

That and they have that 9-6-6 work culture, 9am-6pm, 6 days a week. Burnout kills innovation and eventually desire. They are currently dealing with a movement titled "Let it Rot" because people are so fed up with being fed tradition and honor while struggling day to day
All the more reason to despise their government & its military grip VS its people who are the 1st to suffer from it.
