Me and my friend are trying to get the Perseus and the Paladin, but we aren't entirely sure how to optimize our grind. Any suggestions on what we can be doing that will bag us the most aUEC per hour? Also, our only ships are the mustang and avenger titan, so we can't really do bulk cargo or anything like that.

With just starter ship that will be a loooong grinding...
I'll suggest to start with the small cargo contract to farm a couple of mil, then start buying some middle step ship like a Cutlass or a Freelancer that will allow for bigger haul or multiple mission delivery.
Also look into other gameplay loop, like mining and salvaging: not only they pay well one you get the hang of of them, but it helps to brake up the monotony.
Once you have a ship that can carry a small vehicle ROC/ATLS mining is preatty easy to get into it.

Remember that some ship can be also rented in-game so if you know you'll play a lot in the next days grab one at rent station: you'll lose some income to cover the rent but you'll make sure enough to came out in the positive at the end.

Finally since there is an event in-game at the moment, look out for some ship rental there: those are free of charges

Might be worth grinding and both putting your money together to buy an intermediate medium size ship so you can grind much more $$ faster

I concur with the above, get a Cutty Black if you want to do more combat oriented play or a Freelancer if you want to do more of a cargo oriented play. Both are also good for light mining.

[Edit: bug is fixed] The Taurus would be is great but at the moment you fall through the floor in the cargo bay and end up outside the ship. I fell through the floor of my Taurus in my hangar so many times I gave up on it for now. Once they fix that, it'll be excellent (again?).

Ref: Falling through Constellation Taurus - Star Citizen - Issue Council is flagged as a duplicate of Climbing down to Reclaimer reactor makes you exit ship - Star Citizen - Issue Council , thought that's questioned in the comments.

And here I was thinking the 1 mill investigation Onyx missions in Nyx were an easy grind. Heck, with a small starter ship running without shields, it's entirely possible to not even engage in the ship-to-ship combat and just fly to the hangar or landing pad. An added bonus is that if the cargo elevator is working, you can also loot lots of ship components and weapons.

[Edit: bug is fixed] Hmm, well I only got mine late November 2025, and the issue council reports seem to go back to perhaps a few weeks before that. Have you been using your since then? Would be fab if it's quietly fixed - I just haven't checked in a while.

I kept entering through the cargo lift, then falling through the floor when I headed towards the cockpit. I don't recall there being another way into a Taurus, but maybe I was just being blind and there is and you don't have to walk through the cargo bay - I'll pull it out sometime soon and have another look.
It's such a cool-looking ship. Sorry, I'm dragging this conversation off topic!

After a wipe there are always a bunch of YouTube videos people put out showing their preferred ways to get rich quick, @DuckWatcher, and I'm sure you found a bunch already. Personally, I like LoudGuns' guides, but there are plenty of others, and it's worth looking for something recent as the payouts change over time when stuff gets rebalanced. Is there a career path you and your friend particularly like? Concentrating on one path probably pays better than trying a bit of everything, but is obviously somewhat grindy whatever you do, so choosing something you enjoy really helps.

There is a crew elevator located just behind where the bottom turret is.
