Don't get me wrong, I dig the fact that the Aurora can take a beating and keep thrusting on no matter what is thrown at it like a retired porn star. But sometimes you want something with a little more... Looks. So, on the cheap what would everyone recommend for an upgrade or chassis swap from the Aurora? Or stick with the line and upgrade? Looking at spending under $80 preferably.

Cheers!

Me personally? I really like the Avenger for a starter, its got decent speed, firepower, and a bed to boot, while the bed is kinda worthless right now it will be very important in PU should you ever want to spend some time out in space. There is the also misc reliant coming out soon though which may fall in that price range, it's main advantage by spec being multicrew and LTI for the concept sale at least.

I originally got an Alpha but after reading enough online and here switched it to an MR because I wanted something with cargo space for my first ship. Next, I switched it back to an Alpha then to an LN because it was $5 cheaper than upgraded the MR to LN. I recently got an Omega for less than $40 from a guy on Reddit but it appears his prices are now higher. So now I have a decent racer that I can control (it was better pre-1.1) and still one from the slick looking Mustang line. I've contemplated getting an Avenger but don't want to cross chassis my Omega just quite yet. Since the seller's prices have risen on them again I'll probably wait until I can either get a cheaper code, free one from AMD's gaming application raffle, or wait for the PU. If you can find it cheaper or are interested here's how to get an Avenger package for $25 - $55.

1.) http://www.reddit.com/r/Starcitizen_trades/comments/3142en/wtsamd_packages_lti_reclaimer_pax_aus_trophies/ $20 low - $50 highest. He has a package with and without Squadron 42 for $50 plus fees and $45 plus fees but since I already have a starter set I didn't need another copy. I did want another character slot which it seems it still includes.
2.) https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Upgrades/Mustang-Omega-To-Gamma-Swap $0
3.) https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Cross-Chassis-Upgrades/Mustang-Gamma-To-Avenger-Upgrade $5

I almost want to acquire the last two for safe keeping or if I get another code for an Omega from a friend or cheap. In case you already have an Omega I believe you just have to email support to be able to add another to your account. They should have just made it 2 by default instead of one for those running Crossfire then submit ticket for more.

My next ships will probably be the Gladius I'm going to win from @CaptainRichard's stream when he gets to 3,000 followers, the "inevitable get trashed and buy a MISC Freelancer", and the MISC Reliant.

Lx / ln - really, its an amazing ship.
I also love Gamma and Delta.
Avenger is probably the best jack of all trades if its your only ship on a budget
You can probably get a ccud cutlass for 80+costs through reddit trades

If you're willing to spend $85, you can melt your Aurora and get a Freelancer. Freelancer seems like a very good jack-of-all-trades ship. Not really a dogfighter, but mounts enough firepower to say "fuck off!" to anyone who bothers it, carries a decent bit of cargo, and apparently quite compatible for exploration too.

Plus, it's a giant space phallus, and I don't know who wouldn't want to fly an interstellar dong.

Thank you all for your replies and advice! After careful thought I have decided to give the Mustang Alpha a shot, since if I hate it I can always swap back (hopefully).

It's the Aurora on the inside that matters, not the Aurora in your hangar.

I did the dumb (or brilliant) and just got the Vanguard as my shiny. Now I don't feel as bad swapping around my MR to a Stang Alpha (and most likely back).

I will say that the Mustang Alpha is an interesting little pony. Right off the bat it feels like going from driving a beat up 73 Chevy with over 80% rust and primer paint, to a moped with an Atlas V duct taped to it. There must be an atomized mist of bourbon being pumped into the life support system because I pass out with the slightest twitch. Where as with my Aurora I had to actively try and black out. This is all just from free flight, I'll take it into the arena and do a more thorough comparison. But so far it just seems like the same ship and just Armor vs. Speed/Maneuverability.

If anyone tells you that you made a dumb decision, call them stupid, and give them another drink! If it makes you happy, that is all that matters.. Only real downsides; it isn't hanger ready and you have less beer money!

True, luckily the Easter Bunny somehow knew I liked beer and left a 24 pack with a basket sitting on top of it :).

Upside is 5 years to a decade from now when it is hanger ready, Test will have a good sized fleet of "Run all you want but you can't escape" ships just to give that extra middle finger to other Organizations.
