So if cash is up and they’re admitting they’re behind schedule, why did they close one of their locations?
If you are referring to the LA studio.
Business moved elsewhere.
Why would they not close it?
For old times sake?
Then YOUR next post would be something like someone complaining about "CIG wastes our money on unused office rooms".
Or was there recently a productive location they closed?
If so I missed the notice.
Wait a moment.
I did seem to be the only one at the coffemaker lately.
Also... the coffee's kinda stale...
Hmmm....

I don’t know what that means, “ business moved elsewhere.” I know shutting down the LA office means they’re able to do something like 20% less. If they opened another office, I have not heard about this. So what’s the scoop?
There is so much information out about this, CIG realized the office was an inefficient waste of money.
The staff there was primarily Marketing and corporate support staff (HR, Legal, Finance, etc.)

If anything, having it at all, especially for so long, was just a drag on them and contributed to the communications issues between the Marketing Department and the Design and Development teams.

Let's be honest, that location is very expensive to have an office just to flex that you have an office there.

LA studios haven't been production in quite some time, probably around the time Jared moved to the UK or even sooner. It was the legal address for the company in the US until they changed that to Austin, last year I think. CitCon in LA in 2023 was the swan song for that studio.

As to reasons, it's not a far reach to say that the LA office was the lowest return on investment, least necessary, and furthest from the new UK setting. With much of the work (most?) for SQ42 being done in Manchester and Frankfurt it makes a lot of sense to move leadership there and shut down LA.

Closing that studio has absolutely no bearing on how much work they can or will do. The Manchester studio added gobs of space over the previous leased offices and they went hard on filling those seats. Some moved to Austin, even well before the doors were closed and the Quebec studio has slowly added to it's numbers. With the switch to a monthly patch cadence and a steady stream of ships, content and bugfixes it seems they are doing at least as much, probably more.

Coming from the Scientific Wild Ass Guess Dept, it seems highly likely that after the lawsuit with Crytech was over they wanted out of California. It is no longer a business friendly legal climate there and litigation is astonishingly expensive. The timing seems too closely linked for it to be a coincidence, even if only a minor factor.

tl:dr - no compelling reason to stay in LA and several to leave.

Agree with your overall sentiment but I had an inner giggle at the above. If only CIG were efficient, and not inefficient, at wasting money. If only they took my masters class on being timely at wasting money, they’d have closed the office twice as fast. Why, oh God why, can‘t CIG throw money out the window like us professionals? When will they ever learn?

Did you know the UK had a Derby studio as well as Manchester? It was the Mocap location but they built the new office in Manchester with dedicated suite and the mocap studio role moved from Derby to Manchester. Don't know if Derby office is still open but with Manchester being a huge office with purpose built facilities it'd make business sense to not have a satellite office duplicating capability when it could all be housed under the same cost center.

So, that. But in America and with different roles and responsibilities. There is no scoop, it's just the normal efficient running of an everyday business spending less on overheads to get the same/more work done. If that's a headline it's almost click-bait "Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt" FUD similar to kind of stuff DS used to tout, "90 days tops" which has been disproved by orders of magnitude now.

Although it's unlikely now, yes this Kickstarter project could still fail, nothing is certain until the product is in a box on a shelf... but I don't think this is a sign of it. :like:
