The dimensions in Erkul are very wrong. It says 11x11x3.5m, whereas I am guessing 20x24x5m. It’s a big ship.

it is fast, has excellent firepower and a bed, but inexplicably no head nor galley. Good shields. 18,000 hull. Turns like a heavy fighter.

I went to review the reviews, but all 6 I watched left me with a little bit of vomit in the back of my throat. I can’t imagine why the children act this way. They must hate their parents or something. So we’ll wait for a decent review.

Fear not.
The famous Grey's Bucket can now be bought seperately.
For all your urgent needs during spaceflight that have been overlooked by impractical designers.
By the way, the M80 is not that big of a ship. About the size of an Avenger maybe?
Which is another ship that needs the Grey's Bucket by the way.

As for reviews. Tomorrow we get our hands on the real thing. I expect we TEST it ourselves... 😎

Just got in it in the show - Interior sure is lacklustre. Reminded me of a posh aurora mark 1. Took me half an hour to figure out how to close the ramp.

I'm an Origin fanboy, I had a 300i since kickstarter, love the little 100i and M50, want a 400 and an 890 one day. Let's not speak of the used bar of soap that is the 600i, that's an outlier but I know it has it's fans, and even that fits way better into Origins lineup than this generic Slop. Because it is Slop. Looks like something an AI would generate when the Marketing Team asked for a spacefighter...

By far the laziest ship design I've seen from them since that contest winner gunboat/dropship thing no one even remembers anymore (for good reason).

The interior is really just there so you have space to stand up and drink/eat/logout, and to force the engineer gameplay on you, it's an ugly tube of blinding ligths with some holes in the walls. It's cramped and claustrophobic, at the same time it feels like a waste of space. The 100i feels more spacious... It is the opposite of Origin's luxury design.
It's secondary use is that they placed components in plain sight like in a Drake ship so you can repair them I guess, something that shouldn't be a thing on the inside of such a small ship aynways. I doN't know if it is the same size or smaller than a 300i, but it sure feels like it. The "ramp" that takes up the whole length almost, makes the space useless for anything else, meanwhile I wonder if it's wide enough to get the components through it, which is a real issue with a bunch of ships with components on the inside. (if you ever tried removing a powerplant from a Vanguard you know what I mean).

The outside, while a masterful piece of 3D modeling for the intern that made it, is just uninspiring to the highest level. It's just a bent flat cone with nothing Origin about it. It takes none of the important design cues from any previous models. No shark nose, no color breaks in the shape, no double wings with multi connections, no top inlet, no flat nose, no wings to speak of really as it's just too fat and rounded, no nothing that would pass for an Origin ship. It looks and feels half finished. Hell, the Wolf looks more Origin than this with it's cockpit in the rear and boat shape! This is curved in a way that I couldn't find a single angle from where it had a compelling silhouette, looked interesting or elegant or anything other than small, insignificant and overall MEH.

It's a spaceship alright, but not a Star Citizen ship, especially not an Origin ship.

11 out of 10 on my Hate meter, well done marketing interns! I'm sure it's gonna sell really well being this overly generic with high performance. (until the inevitable nerf. Remeber the Wolf? and teh Ares? yeah...)

I know, I was joking. I forgot to add a wink. Oops. Today's sale really highlighted how limited Origin's "combat" branded line up still is after more than a decade. Nothing between a 325i and the new M80, and nothing above an M80 being sold. Origin is very much a second (or third) tier combat manufacturer now. Given that, I was a bit surprised to see the M80 selling for more than the Vanguards, Guardians, and Meteor. I get that CIG still thinks they need to position Origin as a 'premium' brand, but when pushing the 'buy' button somehow it felt like that price hadn't been earned. Totally arbitrary, I know.

Lol yeah I realized that too late.

That's fair imo. Origin was positioned as "luxury" AND top of the tech, yet it's not represented in the ships, there is no benefit apart from showing off how deep your wallet is, some nice lines on some of the ships and a well stocked bar.

The M80 doesn't seem to solve any of the combat needs either.

It's a Tesla. Fake performance and fake luxury. Heavy for it's size, no good in a corner (has the turning speed of my C1 or there abouts), can't stop, but can black you out with it's acceleration. I can confirm that at least its internal components do fit through the ramp and can be swapped. The "turn off lights" button in the cockpit is a nice touch every ship needs. Unlike some ships (khm, Ironclad assault) it comes with powerful powerplants to power it's power hungry power projectors. And it's engines and shields and almost everything else to the fullest.

After a brief combat session against NPCs, I'm thoroughly disappointed in it's performance. Yes the large repeaters work great against auroras and the like, but the missiles are just not worth bothering with. Hit an npc aurora with 3 of em and it barely took damage (went yellow in some parts). More importantly it has no survivability to speak of. I ate a Single missile from an npc saber and it almost killed me, while being on 100% shields and have taken zero shots before then.
Some of the thrusters were gone making it impossible to control apart from playing it as stationary turret. One of the guns were gone, shields were knocked out for good, all of the ship was showing in red. Managed to kill the saber thanks to inept ai missing every gunshot, quantum to a station, made it closer with very careful uncoupled movements and abandoned it next to a pad. Never gonna fly it again.

Best use-case in combat I can see for it is having actual heavy fighters distracting the enemy while this zooms and booms them one by one.

TLDR.: In the current patch this is an unmanouverable glass cannon with a large booster strapped to it's ass, it is NOT a traditional heavy fighter. Don't expect to survive a proper dogfight, or a competent enemy in a joust.

After flying it in some bounty missions today (an exercise in itself given how shitty this patch is working) I have to agree. The exterior is interesting enough, even if it feels like a fighter designed by committee. Jerk profile is decent, controllable, but rotations are awful, and not made up for by the accelerations. We'll see where it shakes out in the long run, but for me it's a pass at this time.

Honestly I do believe that the M80 is such a bad ship.
BUT I am a little scared of the 600i rework if this is the new vision for Origin ships.
And I smell 300i MKIIs in the near future....

God I hope not this'd be the MkIII if we count the Moonroof rework as a Mk2

i was perfectly happy with the 350r Mk1 and its gull wing doors :-)

Ah yes... Back in the hangar days. The interior seemed so pointless but those doors sure looked great! 😻

Now you have me scared as well. And here I thought that with the 890j they were going in the right direction, but now, with the 80, it seems the new artists do not understand how to achieve refined luxury. It's a shame, as the 600 is still one of my favorite silhouettes.

I think CIG accomplished what they wanted with the M80, it’s just that it’s not what I want. They wanted an unique style that reminds of luxury, heavy side weapons, some panache. It’s remarkable thing is speed just like a BMW or 300 series. I think they are on brand.

I don’t need every new release to grab me by the short hairs. It’s good enough. My calculus is always on deck fighters, Navy fighters as compared to Air Force. F15s, F16s and F22s are all great fighters, but F18s and F35s are those that most often see battle, and in SC we are unlikely to see assets similar to bases placed where we need them, until we get to the point of building them.

Therefore, gimee Naval aka deck fighters that make optimal use of deck space.

Everyone should own and fly a Bullpup, IMHO. We should have combat fighter classes that optimize the Pup for every kind of combat. We should memorize how many Pups will fit in a Zeus, and how long it takes to launch them. So many Pup things to know and do.

I have to say, my least favorite thing about CIG design is how all their ships get fat ex the Carrack and Vanguard from concept to reality. This ship at least looks sleek! I just wish the rear guns could be tucked away as well.
