Even without the ability to use Quantum Travel, it still has the potential to fill the "space pickup/minivan" type of role. Useful for situations when something larger, like a Freelancer or HULL, wouldn't be economical.

I wish I had an answer for you. I didn't even know there was a HUD mouse. I thought that the default weapon groups in the SH were: Group 1 (wings) and Group 2 (nose and ball turrets). I wasn't aware that you could actually change the group settings.
