Too much realism makes it less fun (with the exception of ARMA), they made BF1 to be easier for new players so it would attract more players.

The green gas you see is the gas grenades. Not a special ability or elite pickup. Gas grenades are pretty effective. Avoid or throw on that mask! Gas gas gas!
