Missiles would be the way to go for missions. The only time they're wasted is if you're shooting out of range. Until you get your gun skills up you could waste a lot of ammo. That and you could easily switch damage types with missiles. Most guns can't do that. Also, look up the eve mission...

I can see it now. TEST Squadron drinks all the alcohol. Rest of the universe begins to riot. Riot actually started by TEST. Universe declines into an archaic state. No spaceships left, no future tech. Everyone has devolved into caveman mentality.
