I've never had problems with altitude adjustment. I used to live in Flagstaff and we'd go from there (7000ft) to the top of snowbowl (11,500ft) and I could run around with no problem. I was running around the rim just fine before we went down. My friend and I were even passing people on the way...

I'll make it there some day. Just gotta strengthen my heart. It's strange though because I run up my stairs as a workout routine but walking back up that trail killed me. I can run up 20 flights of stairs with no problem but a 3000 ft decent was much worse.

The ranger station

The trail I recently hiked and died on. Bright Angel trail at the Grand Canyon. I made it a quarter of the way to the ranger station... which is half way to the bottom. Running around the rim was no problem but walking down that trail killed my heart. I have heart problems :(
