There may still be value in making and wearing masks. Yes, the actual SARS-CoV-2 virus particle thingee is nanometers in diameter, BUT, it is most likely transmitted through droplets of snot, spit, whatever, and those are going to be larger and potentially filtered out by cloth or whatever. If...

Interesting map of where the cases and deaths have been the last 4 weeks: The full article has a lot of interesting graphs, if you are into that sort of thing: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/03/upshot/coronavirus-metro-area-tracker.html

I think the difference is that these are *excess* deaths on top of who would have died on any given day. Don't forget a certain percentage of those dying are healthcare workers putting their lives on the line ... I just read this surgeon's obit, yeah "he was old" but he still was seeing patients...

Wow, 800 deaths on Tuesday (yesterday)! For comparison, that is like crashing 2 or 3 airliners in day! Imagine how differently we would all be reacting to that...and how upset people would be if a large number of firefighters, paramedics (and nurses and doctors) died responding to the crashes...

I think some government officials #1 priority is not the safety of their people, but their re-election chances and/or interests of their top donors... I think some are doing some political calculations along the lines of, "The dead aren't going to vote against me*, and the people who live...

I think nobody has a monopoly on "stupid" right now. And technically, these are errors of cognitive decision-making that we all fall for, i.e., "I feel fine, my friends look fine, I'm sure they wouldn't give me the disease," when in fact, COVID-19 spreads like a motherfucker even when...
