TESTies, what national monuments do you find impacted you the most?

It was a difficult choice, but the last of the true US Battleships, the US Iowa class; was designed around being able to take a hit. It does not have the most guns nor as many of them as some other battleships, but it has an extraordinary damage control capability that went into no other class...

    Pirate Swarm - ship toughness

I have noted this for a long time. It doesn't even require jousting to note that most hits do happen pretty close, but that is the nature of dog-fighting as opposed to fighting strategically the way modern fighter aircraft are designed. The new F-35 is a crappy dog-fighter. It's wing loading...

    Pirate Swarm - ship toughness

From the vids seems 1400 is too slow. 1700 is much easier to hit targets in flight with. Also I think Marcsand2 has said he doesn't like the slower weapons for the same reasons. The thing you can't get around with S2 weapons is the crappy <3k range, which places you at the mercy of anything...

Exploration Exploration Guide (What we know so far)

Decouple maintains your speed, but point is, they do have a commitment to make it so ships are vulnerable to attack and boarding. If you could jump whenever oyu like that would not be so, and not nearly as interesting a universe.

Exploration Exploration Guide (What we know so far)

Can people quantum travel in a pinch, whether they have a destination locked into the computer or not? I am wondering what will stop players from using that drive to escape any conflict that isn't going their way, as this would remove the interest to own fast ships that can chase down or escape...

    Pirate Swarm - ship toughness

Ah, so really it is just I was looking for the wrong thing. Glad you found it. So there is a large difference! Does anyone know if we will ever be able to apply the Ghost Hornet Void Armor to other ships as once promised? I am still interested in a multi-mission fighter that I can swap out...

    Lore: somewhat out of place

That was proposed by Dr. Robert Baker a little over a decade ago. His scheme was to focus a pair of High Frequency Gravity Wave generators at a location and cause them to constructively interfere in order to generate a synthetic singularity, toward which the ship the generators were mounted on...

    Lore: somewhat out of place

Mach's Principle (MP) was named by Albert Einstein when he was working on his General Theory of Relativity (GR). MP claims that the quality of all mass that we call "inertia"--what makes matter have mass--is the consequence of the universe's gravity field. So in this theory, gravity causes...

    Pirate Swarm - ship toughness

The Hull tab is gone from the last components spreadsheet, so we can't refer, but IIRC, the only difference between the hull on the Hornets and that of the SH was the extra 100 HP of the turret itself. If you are being hit there you basically can take one extra hit, but you will lose your top...

    Cutlass Blue or Freelancer MIS?

Touche'. Do we have confirmation that it really carries 32 S2's? I would also note that with missiles, the important issue is not only how many it carries, but how many launchers it has. Even if the MIS has 32 S2's, it only has 2 S2 launchers. Most conflicts will not last long enough for...

    Cutlass Blue or Freelancer MIS?

No offense intended to anyone but this guy is very often wrong. He is interesting, but he allows wishful thinking to define every opinion. All the Lancers originally had an S1 turret in back and there is no reason to suppose they will change that. A quad mount is a little crazy sounding to...

    Lore: somewhat out of place

Yes well, maybe the loremasters are planning to steal from Dune and have a subterranean ocean that is uncovered? Who knows? The simplest way to add water is open a wormhole inside Venus' atmosphere and route it to wherever you need it, like Mars. We could do that. . .

    Lore: somewhat out of place

I think if your point is, someone could just redirect an asteroid for water, it may be helpful to look at the energy for such a thing. I suspect you'll find any useful amount of water requires too much energy to be plausible. Certainly running a fusion reactor for it's by-products is not an...

Space Trucking and the Hull C

Have you looked at the Mustang Alpha as a starter with the new cargo box? The bird has a bed, and if you drop the external container, you can fight and race with it. Personally I would go straight from the Mustang to a Taurus and then to the Hull C or the Banu Merchantman. There is not enough...

Fleet planning for a Bounty Hunter

What is easiest depends upon the size of your team, but if you have enough members, I think nuking them with a Raven and swallowing them with a Reclaimer is about as easy as you can get, and you get their ship intact.

    Whats your favorite ship change?

Redeemer--love that they have added a pair of fixed weapons for the pilot, and now plan 4 turrets sporting pairs of Panthers. High energy load-out, long duration and sustainability in combat but easy to spot. Looks like they made a niche' and if you drop in a smaller reactor and load all...

Small Ships all have Jump Drives now?

I think you misunderstood. While you cannot take a small tank out and stick a large tank in its place, you can take other systems out and put tanks in their place. This would allow a single tank upgrade. I did not make up the example of the Tana's missiles. It was brought up by others when...

Small Ships all have Jump Drives now?

IIUC, all ships can scoop fuel given enough time, but only ships like the StarFarer and StarG can refine it for jump travel. So if you get stuck across system, you can get yourself out of trouble, but if you get stuck in an empty system, you have to wait for help to come.
