I think only the dark dwarves and dark orcs are actually automatically unlocked, I think for the other 4 races, you still gotta quest to unlock them.

I'm pretty sure the allied races will unlock when the new expansion releases, irregardless of completing the questlines.

I currently have a couple low level characters on multiple servers, for both alliance and horde. Waiting to see who my time zone best matches up with before I commit to leveling all the way up with some of the new races.

Also keep in mind that exploration isnt quite a mechanic impletmented into the game just yet. And I am sure this is not the last iteration of the Aquila or any of the connies. They will more than likely go through a re-work just like the majority of the other ships where adjustments will be made...
