I still dont think the Polaris or ANY capital ship is going to be as "maneuverable" as you are thinking... think of a small speedboat and its agility vs a jumbo oil tanker or aircraft carrier... the bigger ships take a LOT longer to turn, start, and stop TL;DR - inertia
