I think putting most of your money into ships you want is a better way to spend occasional cash on SC. The UEC credits are not worth much real life money, and the ships will be way more pricey in game than now. It just depends on how much you want to throw at the game. I think of money spent on ships as entertainment funds. I do not go out much lately, so I have spend some of that money on ships to get a head start when the game launches.
