We didn't call them laptops, they were "portable computers" Except at ~20-25 pounds and up, they were more "luggable" than portable, and that was the name they inherited. Lord that brings back memories.

I was the manager of a large manufacturer's service department for a while. I've seen regular people use these methods to remove crayon from a monitor: Since crayon is just paraffin wax, you can use a petroleum based solvent such as naphthalene. If it doesn't work right away, light a match...

They all spy on you, that's how they do spam filters (...the excuse...). There is a way to minimize that, by running your own secure SMTP server, but that doesn't stop any relays from spying just the same. E-mail is not really secure.
