That's just a thing in 1.0. Kind of an Easter Egg the devs left in. Obstensibly it's for testing damage states, because that thing will wreck a space ship. Gladius looks super slick. I'll be honest though I'm still not sure what role it fills as the lightest armed fighter in game.
