Do you have a reference on this? From what they said you can have NPC'S crew you're ships to even provide an escort.
It was pretty much in 10 FTC by the way they described it. You CAN have NPC's crew your ship with you, but I dont think they want the game to turn into a NPC management game where all you do is give out commands while you become this armchair captain. They want you to be involved with the game and do things with your character.

What I'm hoping is I can hire an NPC and put him in my Superhornet with the command of "Escort me". Im sure the AI they are building will be capable of that, because they have stated already the possibility to hire an NPC escort via the service beacon. Having him fly a ship you already own would just cut down on costs, i suspect.
I think this will be viable because the NPC will still be in close proximity with you as you make your way.

Yes crew your ship but you have to be present on said ship to give them orders. You won't be able to walk them p the ramp and tell them to deliver your cargo or go mine or go explore on their own.
Perhaps the best wording for this would be: You can only command NPCs that are directly members of your wing (i.e. Starfarer plus its two escorts). They are always traveling with you and are linked to QD when you QD. Its the only way they will be able to pull it off fairly I think.

Wrong. There's hasn't been clarification yet on how much the NPC'S can or can't do. As of now it's all speculation.

I wrong your wrong. They talked about this on 10 FTC..... initially you will be able to give SIMPLE commands to them like "pilot the ship going from point A to point B". All this was discussed during the autopilot question in 10FTC.

I'm not even talking about the autopilot question. But addressing if you can hire a NPC capt to work for you using your ships. Since there's going to be NPC'S doing everything in the verse themselves I can see them allowing them to be hired out to work for u.

Again, I dont think Chris Roberts wants this turning into The Sims in space.... I think it will be more localized and require you to be within a certain proximity of your NPC crews.

When I played black desert I had workers doing their tasks without being supervised and I don't see SC being any different or it becoming like a sims because the NPC running cargo is working for a player instead of just running cargo just to fill space. We already know that 90% of the population will be NPC'S doing everything that a player can do. But we can just agree to disagree at this point.

I think you're both kinda right. By the way Tony was describing it, it sounded like you could task your pilot to get you to a predefined point B (Possibly with waypoints along the way that you choose). Auto pilot would just fly in a straight line and drop you out of QD if you are about to hit something, while an NPC at the stick will be able to respond to threats or obstacles intelligently because their logic is be driven by the same system (subsumption) that controls all other NPC pilots. What I have taken away from how they described it, I CAN play captain and sit in a chair and direct the battle. That is a big part of what a lot of folks are looking to do in SC. I hope that's the case, at least

I imagine it's the same as using auto-pilot on your car, where it can keep a constant speed and direction, versus having a friend (or a trained monkey) drive, so you can give them basic directions (like stop at the nearest McDonald's, grab milkshakes and then drive to grandma's house for the retirement party).

This could be idiot stoned rambling but I'm imagining a player captain character interacting with his npc crew. In this case aboard a Carrack. It is a dialogue system using the ships intercom. The intercom menu pops up with a list of stations and crew manning them and from there you choose which order to give. The order is then voiced in game just like in the Aquila commercial and the crew member responds based on their ability to perform said task.
Ex:
Captain: "Engineering, we need more power to thrusters!"
Engineer: "I don't recommend it boss, power core is already overheating."

Captain is then given the choice to take the engineers advice or not and the npc engineer is then given the choice to follow that order based on loyalty, then success is based on npc's skill, etc etc., which of course resembles the carrack exploration game.

Really hoping the gameplay becomes something like this.

I'm also hoping that npc's are smarter than fly from points A to B bots. If I hire a pilot in the Tayak system, I'll expect him to know his way around that region of space. He'll know of jump points other pilots don't, he'll know of locations other pilots don't etc etc. I also think they'll be able to perform evasive and combat maneuvers, quality of which all depends on skill of course.

ok then a question: Chris Roberts said that you Can hire as a Steward on an NPC managed Genesis Starliner to earn e.g. a weekly salary. You are NOT flying the starliner...you are only Steward who is doing one Little minigame...e.g. Cocktail mixer or take care of the passengers.

Why should it be impossible to send the starliner you own on the way only with NPC ?

Well, CR previously stated somewhere that he didn't want players to be able to generate income passively: that means you probably won't be able to send your ships to do the work for you. I like this, but I also don't. It's meant to keep people with dozens of ships form logging of and coming back the next day to a huge paycheck, but it also means that having many ships (that overlap in purpose) is a bit pointless. Sure, you can lend your ships to people, but I imagine the "rent" won't be enough to make you rich.

I feel it was rather vague honestly. Lots of awesome information and completely loved it as always but I feel it really lacked a lot of specific need to know information.

I believe it was vague as well, but mainly because they have not fleshed out all of the mechanics just yet. They dont know exactly how mining/salvage/cargo is going to work yet. But based on yesterday's ATV, they are still progressing.

To that end, we will be restructuring some of our existing personnel to help bring this new vision for Shubin to fruition. Starting in April, the Mining Technology Center will be transitioning to embrace a broader research mandate as well as receiving a new title to match. I am sure that we will all be hearing about a great many innovative breakthroughs from our new Extraction Research and Technology Center before too long. In addition, there will be some reallocation of resources from our scanning fleet to form a dedicated gas detection unit that will greatly expand our potential for finding new avenues of development.

We might be getting something in April.

I wouldnt break out the champagne and hand lotion just yet. The piece you are referencing was merely in-verse fiction about a mining corp. While it MAY be a nod to some mechanics that they are currently working on, I doubt they would announce an upcoming release so cryptically. If 3.0 is going to be ready for April, CR would be screaming it from the rooftops, not coyly referencing it through a fiction filter. This DOES, however, add evidence to the sentiment that 3.0's mining mechanic may indeed include gas scooping in the StarFarer.

Considering that refueling, refining, and processing were supposed to be in 3.1 it would make sense they would be folding over into 3.0.
