Soooo, did you watch any of them, or all the "drama" and conspiracy threads took up all your free time this week?
Stuff I noticed:
ATV:
- nah, can't really remember. Did they mention anything interesting apart from the usual "we are working hard on 2.6 and 3.0" ? I seem to recall something about 2.6 going out to the avocados, and then coming back for a serious rework, and going out again later. So PTR is still weeks away, I'm guessing they were aiming for the anniversary which is two weeks from now. I'm not an avocado and I think we have a few around here, if they could chime in it would be great!
RTV:
- The way Mister Tyler ignores most of the questions and asks his own instead is really annoying. The ones he doesn't ignore altogether, he changes into a more generic question so we don't have to deal with any new info or tech-talk/depth. He does it really well, and I hate it. Also, he talks more then he lets his guests talk. I don't like this new RTV, it feels too much like the scripted fake interviews of the so called AAA publishers like EA. Gimme my "who gets to wear the money-hat today" show back!
- The animatior guy was so animated that he forgot how to speak so Tyler interjected by the time he opened his mouth, not much info there, just some generic stuff we already heard every time an animator was on. They don't mocap actual animals, they share animations to streamline production, yada yada. Did I miss anything here?
- Emre, the lighting guy, mentioned that they are working on lighting the 3.0 landing zones, which means they are getting there. That's good to hear.
- He talked about how they work together with the env-artists to come up with the final lighting, also there's planning before they let loose the lighting artists on a scene. So mostly generic "how it works" talk, but interesting if you didn't know!
- He also mentioned something that's maybe only interesting to me, as I work in VFX: the tech guys at CIG are working on real-time colorbleeding! Now that is effing amazing tech! Even big-name non-realtime render engines like Pixars Renderman suffer to pull it off properly. It either ends up very slow with having to use tons of samples, or blotchy and very ugly.
If it works out okay in realtime, it will be a helluva magic trick!
I was running through an Operation in BF1 while listening to RTV, so I might have missed a few bits
(but I didn't miss the blimp crashing on my head while spawning in... We should petition CIG to add an Idris into Star Marine to support the weaker team on the larger maps  )
Edit: what in the name of all that's Testie happened to the smilies? Did they take some growth hormones, or it's just my browser acting up?
