So... I have been trying to play SC more lately... the Carrack does no have ANY doors that I know of other than the front ramp. Every time I go to mine, my ship slides back and my ramp ends up so far off the ground I cant jump on it. Either put ANOTHER door so we can get in to the darn ship, or fix the ramp and ship moving. I've spent hours of fighting this issue.

wmk: Use the magical-carrack-med-bay workaround I've been using when flying Carrack:

I do... except when it does not work and I end up in Loreville and it really is not that reliable, because I have tested it. Every time I "claim" a new Carrack I run to the med bay and set it as my spawn spot, because I know the ship is going to shift and I will get locked out.

Oh yeah, vahadar is right; instead of a catapult you can use Cyclone and jump to the open hangar off the cliff. We've have done this before.
And you can always leave the mothership in a smaller ship, like Pisces, and return the the same way as with a Cyclone, except for the jumping part. Done this many times.

Unless you mean mining with ROC. Then you can... jump to the open hangar!

BTW, are you turning the engines off before leaving the ship? -- my Carrack wasn't sliding nor drifting away by itself in latest builds, as long as it was properly landed and engines were off.

Yes if you hear landing successfully then the ship will stick to the ground (its what causes the ship to tilt slightly sometimes on take off as the stickiness doesn't always come off the landing gear at the same time)
Often times if you land a little hard you'll hear landing successful take off successful as the gear bounces and unless you hear landing successful again your ship will not stick and can move around. One workaround is to just turn off the engines before getting out of the pilot seat.

The Carrack does need the main elevator to go to the ground so that its not just the ramp and its the hope that it will be added in the future.

Yes, almost always... with the exception of night mining where I leave it on so I have light. But the ship has shifted, being totally off as well.

Great discussion folks.

One thing I've learned from flying starfarer A LOT: Land (with 3rd person if need be) -> Open the ramp -> Make sure it opens nicely and doesn't shift the ship, go to the edge of the ramp, see if it's nicely on ground or at least close enough that you can jump it in local gravity -> hop on the ground (and then close the ramp because damn those pirates are everywhere).
I did fly the carrack around during the freefly, didn't really have any issues with the ramp. And I landed in all sorts of places.
