So now that the Idris has been released, where are the fighter pilots and CAGs (Commander, Air Group)? Who has been flying off a mobile launch point? What can you tell us about it? How many of whatever you’re flying will fit usefully into an Idris?

Anyone debating exactly what to put in that hanger bay?

So just checking around, you can fit at least 3 Eclipse, 9 Razor EX and 4 Fury in the Idris hanger bay, without any serious crowding. The bay is reported to be 200x25x11M. The EX and Fury are small enough you can fly over other ships parked on the deck. I have in fact seen this done with a Gladius and was done quite handily.

I urge Idris owners to investigate this combination as these ships compliment each other nicely. The Fury can provide a screen and/or distraction while the others kill things and take their treasure. Razors should straif quickly enough to avoid pdc’s and turrets, and keep them busy so the torps from Eclipse and Idris K can come in.

In case I need to sell people on the EX: try loading it with stealth A, NDBs and the Atlas Q Drive; and leave the drive off when not in use. That’s the only toggle. The ship has a sig of 2.3 so it’s invisible when in guns range. The NDBs will hit often since they’re so fast and they Alpha hard. Pilots can train to leverage their superior speed and stealth to defeat almost any enemy since the tiny target is freakishly hard to hit. This is a good general purpose combat mix, IMHO. If you want to compare it to something like the Gladius (which rotates faster) to be fair you need to think about the Gladius facing three EX. That’s the difference on the flight deck. So imagine you’re in any ship you like against three invisible ships that are much faster than you are. Yeah. You probably won’t even know how many ships you’re facing as they repeatedly disappear from sensors.

The first real carriers make it a whole new game. One org is bragging they have 2 fully crewed Idris with 18 fighters and they are looking for a brawl. That was posted in one of the Facebook groups yesterday.

**And just because no one has said it, please someone fly a Raven and/or a Warlock into the Idris hanger and detonate the EMP. We all need to know what happens.

What CAN be fit inside is not necessarily what SHOULD be fit inside. We make it work on real aircraft carriers by having dedicated teams moving the aircraft around as needed. Sometimes that goes poorly.. RE: recent events on USS Truman, CVN-75. The jank physics issues between the dedicated game server and the clients makes crowding the inside a dodgy proposition at best. There is also the operational issue of accessing cargo elevators as more stuff in the game becomes physical. I.E. Rearming missiles, replacing components, refueling, moving ammo cans, bringing stores on board for the ship itself.

What can realistically fit, and easily, is a flight of 4 Gladius fighter/bombers (we got racks!!!) and a couple of support craft, such as a Terrapin and Traumapin. People will do what they're gonna do tho..!

"Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make History." - attributed to Flight of the Intruder, but the sentiment exists within the services since at least WWII.

P.S. @Shadow Reaper I run an EX, it's as good as you think. Fantastic little PvP ship that fits in a lot of other ships, and when radars actually act that way should be a superb local scout. But there are better choices for blowing stuff up.

The EX is really not good at blowing stuff up, but the Eclipse is, if she gets her chance.

I get what you’re saying about the busy flight deck. Consider though. . .

The 3 Eclipse take up 60m of deck length parked wings across. They were designed to fit this way.

The EX is 8m across. Parked 3 side by side the rear wing of the EX is much wider than the rest of the ship, so this is the only portion that the ships come close side by side. You might have to walk around the wings, but there’s room on the sides of the bay between the bulkheads. Just don’t line up the wings next to the bulkheads. So 3 rows of 3 is 36 meters of flight deck.

The Fury is tiny and should fit at one end or the other. 10 meters of flight deck.

106 meters out of 200.

The Gladius isn’t a bomber. Its missiles aren’t going to hurt an Idris. Not even the shield. If you’re fighting another Idris with your Idris, you want something that can really hurt them. 3 Eclipse can do up to 3.7M damage. The Idris shields are 2.3M, so really 3 Eclipse are just about enough to kill the shield and maybe if you are spot on, kill the spinal mount (~750k health) too. After that it’s S12 torps, S10 laser or that dread S10 mass driver. Gladius need not apply. (This is worst case. The Idris has 2 shields and you only need to knock down the fore to get to the spinal mount. Just we don’t know how the shields are split: fore and aft or port and starboard.)

I don’t know the damage of the bomb racks but I can’t believe they’re giving bombs hundreds of thousands points of damage.

IMHO, you don’t want your Idris in range of another Idris until their shields are gone missing, and killing the opposing big gun or the shield gets you bonus brownies. Also, we need to know the rearm time of the Eclipse. It’s possible they can be rearmed in sequence, return and continue to knock down the shield. If so, they should launch from the stern so the bow is not opened to receive them.

BTW, erkul is not displaying the details of the S12 torps, so there’s no way for me to compare TTK for the three weapons. I’m curious what people think about the three options. I know for sure serving on an Idris against another Idris, I would want a fighter screen just to kill incoming torps. Their range is many times that of the other weapons. You could take a lot of torp salvoes just trying to close in to use the railgun or laser.

The SC Ship Performance calculator says an Idris can see another Idris at 60km. Rail and beam weapons have a range of 10km, but the S12 torps likely have a range of 60km. This means a gun equipped Idris fighting a torp equipped Idris needs to approach through fire for 50km before it gets into the fight. Actually, we should expect the torp boat to reverse, so the distance will be about 50% longer—75km. This possibility is why you have to have an effective fighter screen and means to attack at distance, other than from the Idris itself. You really need the bombers and stealth bombers need stealth escorts and distractions for the turrets and PDCs.

Long story short, if your carried ships can knock down the shield and destroy the spinal mount without your own Idris taking hits, you can manage the distance and kill it with your own spinal mount, whatever it is.

So to be more explicit: I think (we don’t know the exact length of the flight deck—just “about 200 meters”) I think you can park 3 rows of 3 EX facing directly forward in the bows, 3 Eclipse facing aft directly behind them, and 4 Fury side by side facing aft just aft of the Eclipse. This puts your bow closed before the fight starts and allows Eclipse to rearm one at a time, if there’s time.

Last couple fine details

3 S9 Typhoon torps have just slightly more damage than 1 of the Idris shield’s health. It is possible to deplete 1 shield with the first Eclipse Salvo, and destroy the spinal mount with the second. However, the Idris has 15.5M hp, so you can’t kill it with the third Eclipse salvo. Not even close.

The Idris has S5 missiles with a range of 30km. You could maybe finish off a job with that, but they’re only 17k damage each and it’s a single launcher. Not much help when we’re talking about million point shields and components.

I really do agree with Ayeteeone, though it may not sound like it. If you didn’t care about overcrowding the beds and deck of the hanger, and it really is 200 meters long; you could put 6 Eclipse (120m) and 15 EX (60m) and have room for a Pisces Med and/or Turtle. With 6 Eclipse you can knock down both shields and the spinal mount with one salvo, or completely obliterate twin Void Bombers. Depends how much art you can get out if your pilot parking just how much you want to squeeze in there. I do recommend anyone who puts 3 squadrons of EX in there, code name them Red, Gold and Blue and get the appropriate livery. There’s 7-8 to choose from.

IMHO, it is worthwhile to focus on how to ensure you are landing torps. If it proves too untrustworthy or difficult then fall back to the railgun. The extreme range of the torps makes them attractive since you can theoretically kill an opponent without taking any hits. Seems worth it to me, despite torps are very easy to shoot down. That means focus on putting fighters against turrets, PDCs, torp shepherding fighters, torp chasing fighters and incoming torps.

My apologies that I cannot as previously noted join you on Discord, so placing my calculations and suggestions here.

Running the numbers for the Razor EX and Eclipse here, and noting some interesting findings.

Running the Eclipse with shields and weapons off, stealth A reactor, Q drive off, the lowest signature I could generate has it detected by Idris M tracking IR at between 2100-2200m. This number can be got significantly lower by substituting Stealth B or C reactors since these are smaller and produce lower signatures, but this is close enough. A couple hundred meters does not matter for torps as it is a small fraction of a second travel time reduction. Also note there has been talk of growing the minimal lock distance of the S9 torps so that Eclipse cannot get this close.

On the EX, if you want it to attack turrets and PDCs on an Idris, you want the highest laser DPS available. I did calculations with the Dominance 2 and Ardor 2 (essentially the same), shields off, Stealth C reactor, etc. and was able to get the ship detection range when tracked by an Idris M down to 1967 meters. Ardor 2 have a range of 2300, so can attack turrets and PDCs with impunity, until run off by fighters, or struck by blind shots coming from the Idris.

Note too, that all these calculations are with the stealth switch off. Neither calculator includes them. The stealth switch reduce IR by about 25% by increasing EM. Both the EX and Eclipse were observed by their IR, so in theory it is possible to reduce these ranges a little further.

However, 2km is range enough to consistently evade detection and tracking of the Idris guns, so if your EX eliminate fighter escorts first, there is nothing to stop them eliminating turrets and PDCs. The Eclipse can then launch first against shields and then against the Idris spinal mount.

Note that it appears there are no other small fighters that can attack an Idris while avoiding tracking. Maybe the Firebird can do this but it requires more than twice the deck space, and can’t outrun opponents like the Blade, Glaive, etc. You will want your fighters flying stealth recon, and if discovered they need to disappear. The Firebird could be hunted down because it’s not fast enough to simply burst away.

EX and Eclipse are all you need to take down shields and the big gun. Then you can come into range of your Idris big gun, IMHO.

Problems:

—The Razor has a shitty high dash board and ruined sight picture. Pilots need to train for that (roll to get your target above your nose) as well as how to escape a fight using their superior speed to compensate for inferior maneuverability and reengage invisibly.

—The S9 torps may well have their 2.2km minimum range extended to more like 5km, which will move the torp flight time from about 4 to about 10 seconds—much more time to intercept. If however your fighters have eliminated the turrets, PDCs and fighter screen, this simply does not matter.

—The EX fighter limit is primarily one of just how many pilots you can comfortably fit on the Idris. No one has yet tested the limits here. At 12x8.2M deck area, you can fit more ships than you can manage. Really handy crews could sit 18 EX and 6 Eclipse without too many troubles on the flight deck. There isn’t even enough crowding to necessitate mixing Furys in.

So that’s my recommendation. Try and see where the limits are with up to 18 EX and 6 Eclipse. That could be enough to kill 2 Idris at once, and certainly will kill several Void Bombers, and even perhaps a Marauder Destroyer.

Final thought: there are 7 different Razor EX liveries. Try to use them all to keep flights of 2 organized on the deck. Up to 9 pairs of fighters is a lot to keep track of.

Final, final thought: the extreme advantage of attacking from stealth may not yet have occurred here. Especially in the instance of PvP, spotting a target when they are unaware, and attacking with surprise can grant you several minutes where an opponent isn’t shooting back. It takes time to man turrets and launch fighters. A really good assault team can remove all the turrets by then, and of course there’s still the unresolved issue of flying a Raven into the launch bay of your enemy. That just sounds epic to me.

Again, my apologies I can’t go on Discord, but my security guy was explicit and demanding that I abstain until I have a second phone and computer. Discord is famous for high tech espionage.

The above made sense last night when I wrote it but it suggests lasers are the best way to attack Idris turrets and PDCs. Let me amend that. The Deadbolts are really the right tool for that job. They have the same range and signature but they are slow to target so equipping some EX to kill fighters and others to attack turrets and PDCs may be optimal.

You're not wrong, but at the same time do you think a website like this is more secure? - If so, think again.

All of the Command and Control functions are “classified”. Everything that it takes to run an op. This stuff here is stuff anyone can figure out. The advantage we own is that most players will not bother to try. They’ll just each fly their favorite ships, etc.
