So, as a native Los Angelean, and gun enthusiast, I'm going to take an aside from my normal online personality to say this:

We take these things very, VERY seriously here. Gun violence, by accident or design, is a huuuuge issue, right now, and we do not want to add to that.

I know and trust that all TEST members going to that event will carry themselves with professionalism and care, especially since dangerous weapons are involved. Shooting sports are incredibly fun and safe when done right. I doubt anyone will show up under the influence, I would discourage anyone from "playing" with the firearms. Trust me, I've seen it, and depending on the range safety officer, you either get a single warning or you get kicked out.

That being said, we're gonna get plastered at the BBQ, so come prepared to drink. Uber is gonna love that address on Saturday :D

Agreed on both counts. Guns and Alcohol are a baaaaaaaaaaad combination. You can find plenty of excuses other than booze for your lousy accuracy. (Sun was in my eyes, wind is affecting my bullets, sights aren't zeroed properly, it's the wrong temperature for my gun, the target moved, the jackass next to me shot my target...) Save the drinking for later, where you won't get kicked out and waste all your money!

Right about 20 miles north of The Avalon. There's a Red Line subway station around the corner from the Avalon, which you can take to the North Hollywood station, and uber from there. I might be able to send someone to act as a taxi from the Subway station...

On a weekend, expect about a 30 minute drive; add 15 minutes if there's an accident.

Also, this Saturday morning I will be coaching my students at a VEX robotics competition in Calabasas, so if you wanna hang out a bit and watch high school and middle school kids get competitive about robots, drop on by:

Well it's official. I've cleared my schedule for the weekend and I'll be able to attend everything but CitizenCon, because I'm not in the cool kids club and I don't have a ticket. But that's more than okay, I'll get to hang with you lovable rapscallions. Are there plans to meet up somewhere prior to each of the events to get a headcount and come up with a general plan/timeline? Or are we just winging it?

I think that we have things planned as far as getting TESTies in the same area at the same time, hopefully with some refreshments nearby. I'm pretty sure everything after that will be some variation or another on "winging it".
