And this is where game design is a struggle. Do you make capital ships the top tier that makes fighters mostly irrelevant or do you make capitals slow so that fighters have a nitch? While it doesn't make logical real-world sense especially since there shouldn't be a max top speed until you get closer to the speed of light (near .8 to .9). From a game mechanic standpoint, it is valid as it allows those in fighters and bombers to have a purpose and giving the capital ships some severe handicaps. While this doesn't mirror the real world it gives gameplay opportunities that encourage groups to work together with many options. So with capital ships many strengths from defense and firepower it needs some limitations and the easiest is to just make it slow otherwise why would you fly in anything else? While costs are an initial game limitation as the player economy saturates with wealth this becomes a nonfactor. The reason for the saturation of the player economy is often to allow causal players to still be able to achieve most of the gameplay loops without hurting the overall gameplay experience.
Logic like this is 1 reason why I feel that a Kraken might be more useful than an Idris. The Idris can only carry a few fighters at most. While a few fighters will be good against a band of NPC pirates, they won't do much harm to another Idris.

True but throw in a couple of bombers like the Gladiator and now the Idris without a fighter screen is in jeopardy. This reason alone is why I hope it's very hard for turrets to shut down torpedoes. There needs a reason to keep fighters relevant even if its to protect/destroy bombers. This gives capital ships the role of being the anchor as well as a clear objective for the battle at that moment. Protect your own capital ship use it to launch from to attack and destroy the enemy's capital ship. Each capital ship pilot trying to outmaneuver the other to offer their own fighter/bomber wings screen protection while getting the perfect firing solution so they can attack without being attacked back or at a reduced capacity.

For all its faults World of Warships does this part pretty well.

Treat the Idiris as a FARP. The fighters aboard are refueling/rearming, while the rest of the squadron is in space.

Looking to upgrade my Hawk to a Corsair, somehow missed the concept sale on that.

Maybe finally apply that Cutlass Blue upgrade that's been sitting in my hangar since the first concept sale for it if we get some more info about what actually it does now that literally everything is different about the Cutlass.

Aside from that I'm super happy with my fleet and dont want to put any more money down unless something WOWS me.

Yeah, I have a bunch of Corsair CCUs in buy-back. I was completely sold on that ship for a while, but the longer I waited, the less urgent upgrading to it became, lol.

Now I'm literally waiting to see what I end up going with. I have a Carrack, Merc, and Sentinel. I have no idea what #4 will be. Or 4 and 5. I have about 400 in credit though. Looking at Corsair, Cutty Blue, Redeemer, Vulcan. I'd love a medium Salvager. So many choices.

I'm a sucker for medium multirole ships. Got a Cutlass and Cat for acquiring loot, Mercury for smuggling it and hacking/selling data and for smaller loads than I'd need the Cat for. Buccaneer for escort work (😘) and general single person dakka dispenser. Hawk too but as much as I like the EMP on it not having any missiles makes it a hard sell compared to the Warlock.

And of couple of Dragonflies for general purpose utility to toss in the back of the and I'm a happy camper. I dont really want anything bigger than my Cat tbh- sounds like too much work and responsibility for my taste.

I too am a sucker for the medium multiroles. Which is why the Corsair will probably end up in my hangar. Maybe the Vulcan too. I can see a lot of utility in that ship, especially with the drones.
I do have a small issue with not having any small/medium fighters, but I think they'll be the easiest to acquire in game.

I felt the same way about bigger ships. The Carrack ended up growing, then not growing, so i think it'll be managable. And with the modules it'll be fairly versatile. I'm happy with it being the biggest I have. And the only "large" ship I have. I loved the Cat for so long, but the loss of its guns, along with no modules ever appearing, and she sorta faded on me. It's sad really, I had such high hopes for her. They may be realized yet. Time will tell.

I feel you on the Caterpillar, (it'll always have a sweet spot in my heart) but I'm figuring with my BMM I'll be able to get to where I can buy one in-game should good modules for it become a thing after all.

Yeah, I figure they haven't developed the mods because they're not essential to SQ42, and they haven't sold mods because they want to keep selling ships for revenue. She'll always have a place in my heart, as you said, but until she's fully fleshed out, she's just another dream.

But at least she has Parking Sensors!

Can any other ship claim that? Unparalleled parking ability, brought to you by Drake Interplanetary

If I could sharpen the parking sensors, and use them to impale . . .yeaaaaaahhhh. That's be great.

I was seriously hearbroken when they redesigned her. So much potential, and it feels like they nerfed the fuck outta her. I get that they can't design ships that'd be too powerful, but man, WHY?!?

I think I'm going to pick up the Endeavor MS, and a vanguard sentinel. will hope I come across a warden BUK or failing that, pray that they sell a similar combo pack for it in the future. Debating whether to get a starfarer as well.

no worries

if the majority of our fighting is between orgs or alliances of orgs, we will be flying fighters built or purchased by TEST, financed by taxes levied on the membership

players are loss averse - it's much easier to recruit pilots to fly TEST ships than it is to get them to risk the ships they spent weeks or months earning in-game

pirates and bounty hunters will be the only ones buying their own combat ships

Lol who better than a bunch of scummy scalawag pirates to raid enemy organizations where it hurts? Merchant lanes, mining ops, salvage spots.... yeah sounds like a good place for a group of people used to raiding imo. Especially since (illegally) spoofing ship ID codes will probably let you change your organization affiliation, so even easier for outlaws to hit em hard.

Makes complete sense. Look at you, being all smart and stuff. Yeah, flying a TEST F8 would be far more fun than flying my own. Damn, life is good.
