Aight, so another thread that needs your advice. My main role is military support (or at least thats what i have my hangar set up for). Got a Retaliator, a Saber, a Vanguard Warden, a Redeemer, a M50, and a Mustang Omega. I'd like to have something to run as a all purpose ship to run with my local friends as crew. It's lead me to these two ships. The Carrack seems more modular but my concern is that the Carrack wont be able to wield the same teeth that the Phoenix can. Thoughts?

Carrack is a money maker not a battle ship.
It is military all the same and has top of the line tech, same as phoenix.

Phoenix can rip some ships apart, more so than Andromeda and way more than Carrack.
But Carrack has other stuff you might be liking.

Phoenix is really rare, Carrack is not.
Both ships seem to be requiring some sort of reputation to obtain in the PU tho.
Who can tell?

If you just like to participate in battles, Phoenix is for you.
Exploration and science, Carrack is your ship.

Hm. Thanks. Im thinking if it really came down to it, the Carrack seems right, and the voters seems to agree. I mean, given that i have a Retaliator and a redeemer that fit this role perfectly. The Carrack seems like something I can use more leisurely, throw an M50 into if i wanted, and still be able to make a quick buck off of. I dont have an income ship!!! D= Thanks for the votes/advice.

You probably don't want a Phoenix to be support. It is a luxury ship/
It has bigger power plant, all missiles are size 2, it has an automated countermeasures turret at the back, it has better weapons.
I fail to see your argument.

In every relevant way it is superior to Andromeda which is more than sufficient as support to any fleet.

How about option 3?
Turn in the Retaliator and get both.

At the very least, I would say get the Carrack because it serves another role. I would place the decision point on Retaliator or Phoenix myself.

Retaliator is one of the more useless ships currently.

Its sole job is to bring hurt to the capital ships.
It is unable to kill those ships solo tho, and it is quite defensless against fighters with its puny S1 pea shooters (turrets).
CR himself said that one Retaliator could never kill an Idris, which means you need more Retaliators and pobably you need close support to protect them.
And that idris rail cannon can one shot Retaliator.

Yep it is really bad being a Retaliator in the verse.
How offten will you be finding capital ships out there to hunt/fight?
If you were to use one, it would probably be an Org effort in a group.

The only thing missing from the Phoenix that I can see is being able to control it from the Jacuzzi....

Maybe they could move the Jacuzzi up front...

I believe they will remove it altogether.

What do you mean? Nothing screams luxury like showing off your wealth with an unnecessary waste of equipment that is a Hot Tub in a space ship!

All in all, if your Retaliator is a Bomber, it's only a $75 upgrade to get both, even without the Hot Tub. In my opinion, that is money well sacrificed to the Alter of Roberts.

The retaliator is for something separate all together. I have the dropship module LTI on it. Its going to be used (at least in the way they have described the Dropship module) for ODST. the guys who offered to run crew on my ships are extremely interested in the FPS aspect of the game. Been trying to unify the roles and the Retaliator Dropship seems to be a no-brainer for that. Though i have the dropship module, i DID get the retaliator bomber instead of the base so i could have a rear payload for maybe tanks... or something? idk. but its gonna get used. Tali has been one of my favorite ships since they announced it. dont foresee myself getting rid of it... unless maybe there is somethign that would fit the dropship role better down the line. being RussianJ's brother ive been talking with him to see what ships he has so i can work to get the ships he doesnt have that may work well together. The retaliator bomber aspect seems to be our answer to The Corporation's Hull-series ships while he flies something else.

The pheonix will be better for straight up combat. For combat support i would say the carrack.

The pheonix doesnt have the same shields but the smaller size and more weapons means it will be better in combat both in survival and damage output. The snub fighter is always usefull since it to is designed to fight unlike the scout ship the carrack has.

The carrack is larger and seems to be more modular. Where it lacks in fighting capability it makes up for in sensors. The mapping suiet seems to be much the same consol we see in the capital ships coordinating ships in combat. If it can be used this way or swapped out with one that can be used that way then the combat support of the ship can be invaluble.

To me your talking about two different classes of ship as far as size and power, Connie is just a smaller version of a Carrack to me, I think for multipurpose Andromeda is a better choice and a lot cheaper, if your looking to explore and can supplement your ship with 3-5 good players than a Carrack is way to go. From what I have heard the Connie is far more modular than any ship out right now but the games still got a ways to go so that could change.

I just melted my Connie for a Carrack, I am a bit worried about crewing a larger ship but I said screw it that ship just had me at hello.

the carrack has only 1 more crew size than the aquila, and the same crew size as the andromeda. so you dont have to suplament much more to crew it properly.

I just melted my Aquila for a Carrack and a P-72 for LTI. But I want to be an intrepid space explorer/truck driver, my pew pew days are behind me! You might want to consider an Aquila for military support. Its pretty well armed, and you could carry a lot of beans and bullets, still has the snub fighter. No hot tub though. I have a Sabre, Vanguard and a Super Hornet to escort that Carrack and my cargo barges, too, so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Maybe I understood it wrong but I heard people saying the stations were different or that a connie was easier to run solo than a carrack or that the pilot had easier access to the sub stations not sure, I knew the numbers were the same but somehow or somewhere I was under the impression it would be more difficult than a connie, if I am wrong that makes me happy. :P

I like both the Phoenix and the Carrack....but I have a Phoenix and a Freelancer Dur. For me, the Phoenix is more multipurpose and hot damn... that hottub!

Crew size means how much consoles it has that people can man.
You can pretty much solo connie and hire 2 crew for the turrets if you wanted to.

Starfarer has more also bu only 2 are required to operate it efficiently.
Same goes for many other ships.
