That would be amazing, especially if done more to troll the haters than anything else.
Surely net raised matters more? Or even will the project get completed on current funds? I mean only $200 million (admittedly Chris Roberts did not know at the beginning and plan accordingly). In addition its not like ship sales have even remotely slowed so why celebrate only $200 million.
They could make a small shell game company to pay Derek Smart for a body scan to "put him in their game" and really suck up to him telling him they inspire them with his games. Then put him in Star Citizen in a prison as the bottom bitch to the pimp in the prison, selling his booty for pirates all day long.
PERFECT! I love that idea, I'd find money to throw at pixels to contribute to that goal.

I think it already is. Lots of people buy ships on concept and sell them at huge markups once they're no longer available.
On top of that they are getting us to make commercials to sell even more ships.
