Lads and Lasses,

I've noticed that we now have a plethora of new groups to invest our Auroras into. This makes my pants tight. Among those is 'Covert Ops'. Don't mind if I do.

Now, everyone has different ideas of what covert ops is, so I'd like to get the juices flowing, and see what y'all think about different types of missions, as well as what ships you think you'd be using?

Ideally this thread would be in the group itself, but I see that we can't yet post threads to the forum.

Cheers TESTies,

Owl

Well I don't know about all the what ship should be used, or how it should be used, or the brand of beer you should be drinking; but IMO the Division Logo should be the Kraken.
Why the Kraken? You say. Well let me tell you.
The Kraken has many arms that spread out, feeling and testing the waters searching for prey. Once found, the might of the whole can come to bear. Yep Kraken for logo. Can I get 2nd :fist:

I'm thinking more deception than stealth.
Make some pitiful org trust one of our undercover operatives and then we'll eat at their core from the inside, like I'm doing with TEST right now on behalf of ADI and AA.
MWAHAHAHHAHAHA!

My first multiplayer experience in Splinter Cell was a fun but difficult one. My friend and I were trying to complete the first mission without being spotted. We failed the very easy first area over and over again, each time with the NPC director telling us to keep a low profile.

We tried being sneaky and spent 2 hours tring to avoid the guards and another hour trying to take them out. Each time a camera would spot us or a guard would randomly hear us and turn around.

"And keep a low profile" is the only advice that we had. After the 200th time, my friend snapped. "Low profile? Low profile! Looooooow prooooooooofile!" He screamed at the TV as he raced towards the nearest guard in full sprint. In a panic, I tried to help my friend by pulling out tlmy silenced pistol and shooting 2 of the guards that turned around from the sound of him stabbing that first guard to death.

Luck must have been with us that day because we weren't spotted. We then proceeded to complete the level as though it was Counter Strike. "Looooow prooooofile!" We'd shout while sprinting.

Surprisingly, we just shot everyone in the head and beat the level without being spotted. Those pistols only have 2 mags total and you can't get more ammo. Every guard died, no alarms activated, and 2 very happy Spec Ops people made it through a very easy first level for the first time.

So when people say Spec Ops, all I can think about is that I need to "keep a low profile" and I'll be fine.

I wanted to shitpost but I'm having an off day I guess.

Covert Ops is something I find interesting. The idea of sneaking around in order to make something of benefit happen for Test sounds exciting, dangerous, and fun! These are my thoughts...

Professions:

SPAI's: Of course we are probably going to have Test SPAI's. In fact I'm pretty sure Test is full of SPAI's so why not ask for their help ;). Seriously, I envision this being an in-game only job. No Eve Online meta spying bs that plagued that game. In SC you might scout out other Org's bases/locations or maybe you bounce around from system to system in your Herald or Terrapin and listen in on folks and/or find their beacons. This is basically a spotter with slightly more capability. This would be pretty cool as your still info running but with a touch more delicacy required.

Sabateurs: Think SPAI but someone who actions on something like destroying another group Org's beacons. Maybe waiting until most of them leave their mining base they have setup to go mine stuff. That's when you land or dock and splatter anyone left and then set the reactor to self-destruct and make a quick getaway.

Bombers: Obviously this is a thing. Made up of Eclipses, Retaliators, Gladiators(maybe), Harbingers(for longer range), Sentinel's(EWAR is god), a few Polaris' and Idrii. This fleet is focused on one thing and one thing only. Destroy the target without them being able to call for help. First wave of Eclipses will neutralizes comm arrays and defenses. Once the attack starts the Sentinels will jam all the singals they can to hopefully blackout comms that way. Then the heavy hitters show up. The Harbingers can keep any fighters off the Retaliators while they finish the job. Harbingers can also help if required or no fighter threat exists. Polaris' and Idrii their for support and to handle any cap ships that somehow might show up. The entire focus should be to get in and get out as quick as possible. Any pitched battles should be avoided if at all possible.

Marines: Because having your own army is spicy. Having boarding/raiding parties may help soften a target. If a base has a lot of anti-ship defenses then I envision these folks entering the planet's atmo in..... Starfarers!!! Why regular Starfarers you ask and not Star-G's? Because a normal Starfarer or 3 doesnt really attract attention. It perfect for landing on the surface of a planets with loads of Nox's and Dragonfly's. Your Marines then spill out and travel quickly to the target and breach it. Quickly kill anyone inside and take over the weapons and comms system and voila! All your base are belong to Test!

Just some quick thoughts I've been having. Feel free to comment!

List of things "Covert Ops" should be capable of doing:

  • Espionage (Hacking the Spectrum, tracking conversations ingame, etc)
  • Tracking
  • Sabotage
  • Verification of Intelligence
  • Stealing the enemy's supply of beer.

Here's something to practice right now with in-game ships and FPS weps: 2 Hoplites jump into Koreah(or anything else you want to use as an objective, could be an offline comm array) a few thousand meters from the "objective", the Hoplites deploy their troops and jump out again. The troops EVA to the target and commence to wreaking havoc. At Koreah, first we kill everyone there and disable any ships(by climbing in and ejecting), because I don't think we can destroy them with FPS weps. At an offline comm array, the objective could be to keep it offline as long as possible. The Hoplites jump in, disgorge their troops, and jump out(when they jump out, the nine tails pirates will leave)leaving a dozen or so heavily armed Testies lurking about waiting for some poor schmuck to pop in, battle the pirates and move in to reset the array. When he does, we light him up and get rid of his ship. All comms on Discord, nothing on the in-game chat. These are the only scenarios I can think of where you wouldn't incur a crime stat. If you're not worried about that, then there is no limit to where you can raise hell, Covalex, Grim Hex, the ICC missions, wherever! I would suggest a time limit of 45 min-1 hour, Then bring in a heavily escorted something or other for exfil(NOT Hoplites!)If things start getting too hot, we silently fall back to a rendezvous point and call for evac. The only problem I have is our names floating over our heads, is there any way to turn that off?

I thought CIG mentioned the fliating names thing briefly in an ATV 2 months ago. They said they were working on a better system for that.
