I'm curious what the people think about best in class for the deep recon role. The Ghost Hornet, Sabre, Khartu-Al and Tana all seem might serve the role. Has anyone checked their signatures? Is there a way to compare them in game? Maybe get three friends flying them together and have them check each other's sigs?

Since we can't fly the Tana we have to guess about it, but I'm curious what people think.

Personally I want some space in the boat for enhanced scanners and small cargo so I like the Tana, but I think stealth is certainly the most important, and if one of these can't wear Void Armor, that could kill it for recon.

What do y'all think?

I've done flyby tests using my Sabre at different ranges and speeds to check when I register on my friends' sensors. The emissions are shown in your cockpit and you could theoretically compare them that way. Also note the Freelancer is supposed to have low emissions and while not a 'stealth' ship like the Ghost or the Sabre, you could fly silent and recon with it I imagine.

For a few moments I let my mind sway to think this was a post directed at guys getting the 40+ exam with a doctor or other qualified professional. I envision though the Herald to be the best scout/recon low signature ship that can punch out fast when SHTF. Hopefully they will make this a wonderfully viable role.

I went for the Ghost. My thinking is that it has the stealth, and should (no official confirmation) be able to mount the Tracker's sensor pod.

The Herald looks like a better sensor ship, but seems to be more for blaze in/blaze out scenarios.

I've been wondering about this. The sensors from the tracker on the ghost. That would make great recon ship, providing the sensors don't cause your IR signature to blaze.

I think I need to establish a distinction. Are you talking about deep recon, as in deep into unknown space?
Or
Are you talking about infiltration, as in recon into enemy space?
The latter. In other words, recon in "enemy" or dangerous territory. Which ship would you be most comfortable gathering intel in Vanduul space? You don't need to be able to fight, but you need to be able to hide, evade, escape and actually gather intel while you're there, so good sensors are as important as speed and stealth. A second seat is also handy for lengthy missions since you can then split the time with a friend. Bedding down on an asteroid alone is probably not the very best choice but you could manage that if you had good reasons to take a single-seater.

I am liking the Sabre more and more as folks talk about it, but I'm still hoping the Reliant will be able to install equipment in that cargo space, which would make it useful for deep recon. Swapping out heavy sensor packages for the Behring REP-8 EMP Generator found in the Warlock, would make it serve a whole new range of duties, but especially privateering, and privateering operations need deep recon too. Would be nice to be able to do both with the same ship, different equipment and weapons loaded.

Sabre does sound good. So does a Hornet Ghost with the tracker sensor package, IF it can be cross-loaded. And the Herald. 3 good options methinks.

Does anyone know how to put the Sabre into stealth mode? Guys we're doing it to me in combat last week, but I have no idea how their managing it.

Okay, let's assume we're talking about recon task in hostile teritory.
As we want to stay undeteced as long as possible,
we need some stealth, to minimize the range at which we could be detected.
also we need strong sensors, with a huge range for passive scanning.
(active scanning would act like a beacon, rendering stealth useless)
We need a ship, wich is able to travel a greater distance without the need to refuel.

Hornet Ghost: one of the best ships, when it comes to stealth, but range and scanning power may be an issue. Can defend it self, when in trouble

Herald: good range and awesome scanning abilitys, but stealth may be an issue. can defend it self for a while or at least cover it's escape with some data spike missles, before it burst away with it's big engines

Freelancer DUR: awesome range and great scanning abilitys, but the stealth could be only medicore (huge crosssection, as it's not a small ship)
When in trouble, it could defend it self for a while, due to big shields and thick hull

315p: good range and good scanning abilitys, the stealth could be not that bad, due to (sleek design and it's a small ship) can defend it self vs non fighter ships, but should run, when dedicated fighters show up.

sabr: simillar to the hornet ghost, but the range may be greater.

I don't think there is the single best ship for each situation, but if i'am asked to scout out ennemy movements and comunications, i would choose the Herald. As we only know little about ship customization jet, i only talked about stock ships (or what can be expceted for a stock ship)

PS: to turn a sabr into stealth mode, turn of the engine manually (stealth is not implemented propaly jet)

The radar we have now is not what we will have in the final release.

The radar system at present is very arbitrary, and therefore not a good indicator of a ship's performance.
