The wording on the page linked above is kinda unclear, but I watched the stream and I don't remember them mentioning any requirements apart from having a battle.net account. Try logging in to your account and see if it pops up as a gift.

They want to discourage people from creating second accounts and then selling the accounts, so they want to tie it in with a SMS confirmation to your phone.

Free Gambit Weekend next weekend. hybrid PvEvP game mode, a TON of fun, if you got the game for free and are looking at keep playing, try out gambit, it is part of Forsaken, and it one of the best and coolest new things I have tried in shooter games like this.

Fun game, just don't expect too much out of it, and you will always be happy with it. Also, there is a lot of jumping.
Optimization is great, frame rate for days even on potato computers and movement/FPS combat is good.

PvP could use some fine tuning, but is also decent and the 500-600 grind/lack of exotics is a lot better now.
