I stumbled across it a couple of days ago when CIG/CR wrote about it: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15515-Note-From-The-Chairman

"Interesting", I thought, "but wtf cares...?"

And well, the last days, I again and again stumbled across it. Today now I opened the kickstarter page of "Dual Universe", just because I'm curious whats this all about:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1949863330/dual-universe-civilization-building-sci-fi-mmorpg

I watched the teaser

I read the content.

But honestly: in opposite to Star Citizen this whole setup doesn't convince me to give one single buck. Plus this whole thing with "No instances, no zones, no transitions" bla...don't we have such things already at least with EVE...?

What are your thoughts about? And what could be the reason that CR not only takes notice but writes a whole message about it? Doesn't he have better/more urgent things to do...?

Would like to share your thoughts.
Thanks and cheers!
Sam

Well, I just spat out a definite NO. And here's why (well...some of the reasons):

1. I already feel like I joined the Special Olympics team, when I look at how much I've already invested in Star Citizen. Startin' to back some other game ain't the right step towards curing this kind of addiction.

2. What they are sayin' sounds great in terms of freedom of creation, but I see one big problem: people. Now here's an educated opinion (a really strong one, that is): most people are dicks. You give them an environment where they can do anything - they'll shit all over the place. Give them a fan - they'll pick up all that shit and throw it right into it. Just for the kicks. When this game will go live, I'm positive we'll have a full size universe of floatin' dildos and skyscrapers shaped as naked women. On a side note (so I don't strike ya'all as a negative person), it's true flowers can grow in shit, but they ain't makin' it smell any better.

3. Star Citizen kinda' spoiled me in terms of graphics. I hardly like anything anymore, and I definitely don't enjoy those chiseled Minecraft images I've seen in the presentation. Hell, not even the concept art looked good to me.

So, after it gets released (and considering their aim, we're lookin' at five years at least), and after some space pioneers manage to open a bar inside it, I may consider goin' in to use a toilet.

I backed it at the lowest level. I love space games and am willing to give it a try for €15. Who knows if it will turn out to be decent or just another flop of a space game, but I'm sure I'll spend some time playing it if it makes it through production. Low risk for what could turn into something fun, even if it is uglier than SC.

Nope.
It was my New Year's Resolution this year not to buy any more "pre-orders" or "early access" games. I was one of those who was completely disappointed by Fallout 4. Sure, I've fallen off my diet here and there (looking at you, Eternal Crusade), but I generally need to hear opinions from people who have played a game for awhile before I decide to try it or not.

I still got weakness for SC and spend 5 or 10 bucks here and there, mostly by melting and un-melting my fleet. But I really haven't spent any big money on it in over a year. Got the Cat with Fleas combo-meal by just melting the Cat I already had.

Nope not going to support it it strongly reminds me of Space Engineers.
And also SE sounds great but really sucks sometimes. And i agree to Cherokeedog. It will work on small servers with a small community of 50-100 people who know each other.

Also i'm keeping an eye on the game.

In my opinion it's like space Minecraft and i didn't played minecraft in the first place because I prefered to play with RL Lego....
I don't see me playing a gmae like this, so i can't justify spending money on it.

i think the thing that didnt really sell me is while it looks cool and all 1 ive put my money on one space mmo and thats Star Citizen. Plus the fact that you are kinda backing the right to in the future pay a subscription fee to play is not my cup of tea. of right now SC isn't supposed to have a subscription system short of what it already has which is optional. I like the idea of buying a game and knowing if i want to play it online i can
